Root Need some help from someone with a rooted Shine Plus

Nordo

Newbie
Hello all!

I was wondering if I could have a little help from somebody that has rooted their LG Shine Plus and is comfortable with a rootexplorer app.

Basically my situation is that I was born without a brain, and removed an embedded app. I used titanium backup before doing so, and discovered to my dismay that backing up an embedded app doesn't work so well, so I was only able to backup the app's data, and not the actual .apk file. None of my other backups/Rom backups have this app in it, so I was wondering if someone could lend a hand.

The app is the Nuance Voice Control software that comes with most of these phones. I was wondering if someone could use a rootexplorer, and navigate to Root\sys\app (where i believe the embedded apps are stored), and simply copy the .apk file associated with nuance voice control to a safe place, and send me or upload the copy. This is a very safe procedure, as you are not altering any of these files, but simply making a copy and pasting it somewhere else. I have done this with all my important embedded apps (after i learned from my mistake with nuance) which i know are rare and have heard that some factory resets could make disappear (eg. FMradio etc.).

Only trouble is that I don't know exaclty what the associated .apk file is called, but it should have the same name as the program (or ~com.nuance.android...).

Anywho, I realize it's a long-shot, but I just want to say thanks to anyone willing to take the time and help me. I can't offer much more than good karma and 3 magic wishes, but you can bet I and others will be here to help anyone with similar problems-- after all, that's what a power-user community is all about!

Again, thanks all!

Holy crap that was a quick response...You're my hero 350Rocket!

The .apk file worked like a charm and is now all backed up. New lesson learned for me!

Thanks for taking the time to do this, I greatly appreciate it!! :)

Hey nordo, i was wondering if you could tell me which files are safe to remove. I'm definitely not taking the nuance voice control out.

Hey 350Rocket, sorry about the delay; wasn't able to get online that much recently.

I haven't been doing too much experimenting on which files are safe to remove apart from the Nuance voice control thing. I was aiming for that one specifically because I never use it, it was always active and could never be killed, and caused the battery to run down faster. I can tell you that removing the associated .apk file (or uninstalling with Titanium Backup like i did) is safe once you manage to restart the phone.

I haven't messed with the system files, but my general way of doing things is to google the file process, backup the associated files, and uninstall it.

If you have the factory ROM backed up, I imagine you can't go wrong as long as you can get to the recovery console and restore things..
