Need some help please!

Hi!

I've just purchased the HTC Desire HD, and need to transfer all my data across from my HTC Desire.

There's a few things I need to do -

1. Transfer all of my info from my old SD card to my new one, and have no idea how to!!?? This will take care of my contacts and photo's, etc.

2. Transfer my SMS & MMS Messages - Can not see how I can do this, as my messages are saved on the old phone, NOT on the SD card.

3. Transfer all Calendar entries - Again, these are stored on the old phone, not the SD card, so again, I don't know how to do this.

Please can someone help me? And talk to me like I'm an idiot (lol :D), because I really do not have a clue, so need the instructions to be as simple as possible, lol!!! :)

Thanks in advance!

Connect old phone to pc, copy EVERYTHING off the card, inlcuding hidden files, to your pc. Connect the new phone, and copy everything back to that. And FYI, yor contacts arent stored on teh sd card, they should be synced with Gmail.

2. Transfer my SMS & MMS Messages - Can not see how I can do this, as my messages are saved on the old phone, NOT on the SD card.

Use an app like SMS Backup and Restore. Install on old phone, backup, then transfer that backup file to the new phone, install the app, and hit restore.

3. Transfer all Calendar entries - Again, these are stored on the old phone, not the SD card, so again, I don't know how to do this.

Calendar entries should already be backed up to your gmail as well, provided you create your calendar entries as "google events" and not "phone events"

Sorry to be a pest! I've just tried to download the "SMS backup and restore", and I get the following message -

"There are no Android phones associated with this account. Please sign in with a different account."

No idea what to do!! - Feel so stupid, lol!!!

Try this website.
http://androidforums.com/android-ne...ere-no-android-phones-associated-account.html

Best off luck.
Cheers, Bentree.
P.S. Enjoy your new phone.

Thank you very much, I will try that!

I've managed to download the "SMS backup and restore" to my new phone, and have tried to download it to my old phone, but if I log in with my usual gmail account, it says it's already installed, so I used a different gmail account, and it says there is no phone associated with this account!!! No idea what to do next!!!

Hi,

I've tried this website, and have had several attempts at doing exactly what it told me to do, and it still says there is no andoid phone connected to my account!

I just don't know what to do next!!!

I really want to save my messages and calendar events (I've sorted the contacts and photo's), but just don't know what else to do!!!

Any more ideas please? I really don't know how to sort this out :confused::confused:

Thanks again in advance,
Natalie :) xxx

There is also an app installed on your phone call "Transfer Data". Its a simple way to transfer most things by bluetooth.

Hi,

You must think I am completely stupid by now, but I've checked my HTC Desire, and there isn't an app installed called "Transfer Data" - Everywhere I turn, I am met by brick walls, please help!!!

You're not an idiot at all, it's on your HD, not the original Desire ;)

The HD should pull the data it needs from the Desire.

Hi,

Many thanks for your quick reply. I found it on the HD, and all it did was transfer Contacts, it didn't give me the option to transfer anything else.
Am totally stumped, lol!!!! xxx

Download an app called MyPhoneExplorer (Google for it ...). This has a PC Client and an app on the phone, both free. I use it to sync my DHD with my Outlook calendar and contacts on my PC as well as sync'ing my music. It will also allow you to use the PC for sending/receiving texts (though I don't do that as I send an average on 1 text every 3 months ..... :-) )

You "should" be able to do everything you want with the one app, though it does mean that, to some extent, you need to know where some things are on your old phone.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for your reply, I am really starting to panic now, lol!! (Sad, I know!).

Just one question, do I download this app my my old phone, or my new one? The reason I ask is that I am having trouble downloading anything to my old phone

Thanks again,

Hi again Dave,

I've managed to download the app to my new Desire HD, but I can't download it to my Desire. Now what do I do?!! (Bet you wish you'd not replied to my post, lol!!).

Thanks for your help, I do really appreciate it.

Hmmm. The short answer is, no. I don't know why it won't download. I assume the desire can download other apps OK? Can you use HTC Sync to install the app?

MyPhoneExplorer has a reasonably busy forum at ... FJ Software :: Forum anzeigen - English section ... best place to ask.

As for panicking, I assume that's just panicking over losing data? As long as you don't delete it from the Desire you're fine. If you plug the Desire into a PC can you mount it as a disc? If so, just copy everything to your PC and sort out what it is later (that'll just copy piccies, music, etc, not contacts or calendar).

But take a look at the DHD User Guide (download it or it should be on the SD Card). Page 48 starts a section on " Transferring contacts from your old phone" via bluetooth. That "should" help.

I'd look into using the PC to back your phone up regularly. I use Outlook for email/contacts/calendar but you can also use Thunderbird with MyPhoneExplorer. I just assume that I could lose my phone but not the PC ......

Hi!

I finally managed to restore my messages to my new phone - I think the problem was that I was using the same SIM for both phones.
I borrowed my friends SIM, put it in my old phone, and it let me download the "SMS Backup and Restore" App, and hey presto, done!!

Thanks SO MUCH!!!

So, just ONE last question -

The only thing I've not been able to transfer are my "Calendar Entries" - These are entered on to my old phone as "Phone Entries", so I can't sync them via Google, Gmail, or whatever it is.

Any ideas on how I can do this PLEASE?!!

Kindest regards,
Natalie x

Hi,

I decided not to bother with the transfer of Calendar Entries - I tried HTC Sync, nothing worked, so I decided enough was enough!!

I have all of the most important info transferred, and that's thanks to you! So, a great big THANKS to everyone who has helped me, I really appreciate it!

Kind regards,
Natalie x :)
