Root Need some help with custom recovery

ok so im new to the rooting scene, so these answers should be pretty simple and easy. there is prolly a guide right in front of my face on these forums but i havent been able to find it in the past day or so.

ok so where i stand now i have my vortex rooted with z4 i have firmware 2.2 everything has went smooth so far. but my problem is when i try to custom recovery i have no idea where to type all the code in i have found terminal apps on the marketplace and else where but its such a hassle. How to i connect to my droid so i can use the driod terminal interface on my pc. (windows xp)

tldr version : how do i connect to my vortex with my pc to use keyboard to type the code for custom recovery.

Its a pain to use the terminal app but honestly Its probably more work setting up ADB. I used a terminal emulator from the market to install custom recovery but if you really want to set up adb try this guide • View topic - [GUIDE] ADB for "Dummies"
