Need Tips Before I Buy

Hiya,

I'm Planning on buying my wife an X10 mini pro tonight (locked to Tesco but not branded).
Any tips before I buy? I notice that some people are having issues updating to 2.1, will I be able to do this seeing as its locked to Tesco?
Are the updates OTA?
Will it play Angry Birds !!!!

Any info would be very much appreciated

If the phone is on a generic branding then you should be able to update to 2.1 which has to be done via a PC using either PC Companion (which is preinstalled on the phone and prompts PC installation on first connection) or via Sony Ericsson Update Service which is downloadable from their website.

Not sure about Angry Birds, have a little look round the mini and mini pro forums to see if anyone else has commented on this. The screen size/resolution has been a problem on certain programmes.

I have an X8 which is quite similar in set up to the mini's and I think it is a nice little phone.

Edit.... I have read a post today saying that o2 isn't releasing the 2.1 update til later this year, now I believe that Tesco Mobile and o2 are a joint company so it might be worth asking the question about the update if it is going to be a deal breaker for you. The phones on 1.6 aren't at all bad tho!

i bought the phone last night and it says that it is on 1.6, when I connect to Sony Ericsson via the update software on a PC it tells me that the firmware is up to date. It doesnt appear that the phone is branded in any way (is there a way of checking that a phone is branded?). Tesco dont release updates for their phones which leads me believe that their handsets are locked not branded.
 
so happy i found this thread... i bought my tesco mini pro yesterday (05/01/11) and went to upgrade my firmware to 2.1 from 1.6 and everything says its up to date...

If anyone can clarify this would be much appreciated

Also, everywhere says tesco sims work in o2 phones but not the other way round... i just checked my o2 sim works perfectly fine, tomorrow i will see who gives me the best deal and cancel who doesnt

so to recap, can someone please advise on the tesco firmware problem and does anyone else's mini pro's back creak at the corner closest to the mic?
