Help need to reboot the phone for getting full internet connectivity speed

Hello All; I would be extremely grateful to have advice regarding a issue albeit trivial I am experiencing.

While using the phone the the internet sometimes goes a bit slow. initially i used to think it was the ISP service provider and did not give much attention to it. i would do a speedtest and would see only half the capacity of the ISP showing up as speed. Then i gave the phone a reboot and tested the speed test again immediately and i got the full ISP capacity. I have tested this a few time and everytime i seem to have to reboot the phone to get the full speed. i have tried to clear the RAM usage but it does not help.

the current android version is 4.1.2

please let me know if anybody has had similar issues - or anybody knows why this may be happening and how this can be fixed?

many thanks in advance.

What carrier are you on ?? and have to tested this in all areas or just one location ??

thanks DonB , i am with EE and i have tried this from my home only for home internet. but i have tested with my PC at the same time i see diminished speeds on the phone and my PC reflects the true speed

If I may ask a few questions to clarify the situation.

(a) Are you connecting the phone (with EE Mobile Data off) via WiFi to a router and thence to your home broad band connection?

(b) Is the PC using a hardwired connection to the router?

(c) Can you access the router set up screen?

Thanks PiscesCloud; here are the response to your questions --

(a) yes the speed test i do is with the mobile data turned off so that the phone is connected to the ADSL router over the wireless.

(b) tests with the PC or more specifically using Laptop is over the wireless as well and not using the ethernet cable to connect to the router directly.

(c) yes i can access the router access screen;

I've always had issues with wireless. Both my Note 2/10.1 display the same thing. But it eventually resolves itself later without need for reset. The same thing happens with other wireless devices. Wireless is just unreliable from my experience. I just ordered a USB to gigabit ethernet adapter to avoid this wireless hassle at home. Hopefully it will work with USB OTG on the Notes.

Your post prompted me to test the connection speeds of my laptop, desktop and SGN2. In order to ensure the same test conditions I used my ISP's (TalkTalk) web based speed test. Normally, all the devices are about the same but curiously, this time my desktop was about half the speed of the others. Initially, the speed would be good but then half way through the test, it would drop significantly. This effect was worse for the second and third time I ran the test.

I then realised that the desktop had been in use all day and so I cleared the cache using ccleaner. Hey presto, all was back to normal again.

Since rebooting the handset does the same for you, I suggest that you try clearing the cache instead. That can be done from within the Internet app 'Menu key / Settings / Privacy and security'. Alternatively, you could try an app such as 1Tap Cleaner.

I guess that the above would only apply if you used a web based speed test but it might perhaps give a lead.

I have noticed the same issue with my Note 2. Every so often I'll be watching youtube and the playback will repeatedly stop to buffer. So I do a speedtest and the result is horrible, I've seen it as bad as 1mbps which is not even anywhere near my cell data speed let alone wifi. If I reboot the phone, it's suddenly fine, with speeds of 16mbps or more (my cable is supposed to be up to 21mbps so 16mbps is perfectly acceptable for what I can expect).

The fact that the reboot solves the problem makes me think that this is a software issue as opposed to a hardware issue but that's just my guess.

Usually what I do if I don't want to reboot the phone and interrupt my viewing too much, is I just turn off wifi temporarily because my data speed through AT&T is usually anywhere from 4mpbs to 9mpbs in the house which is good enough to watch HD youtube videos without buffering.

In "more settings," mobile networks, network mode, what setting was the default? Global, LTE/CDMA, GSM/UMTS?

Some users report a change by going to the global setting no matter the default. ymmv ;)

When I asked if you could access your router in an earlier post, I was thinking it might be useful to have a look at the connection details for your SGN2. Specifically the connection speed, as reported by the router and also what channel it was operating on.

If the router's channel is at the extreme end of the range it may be that the SGN2 is struggling with it.

Also, does your router display whether other WiFi's in the neighbourhood are also trying to use the same channel? I have set mine to be well away from the channels my neighbours use. If the router does not give this information you could run 'WiFi Analyser' on your phone; you can make a selection to display a chart of WiFi signals against channel number.
