Root Need to reset phone

Depends what you mean.

A factory reset will do the same after root as before, i.e. delete all installed apps, user data and settings. So if that's what you mean, remove all user data, then it is that easy.

What it won't do is unroot the phone or return it to the original ROM. If you want to do those, then a ROM Update Utility (RUU) is the answer - see the FAQ.

One other thing: if you have used revolutionary (or S-Offed using Alpharev) then you'd need extra steps to reset the bootloader (flash the downgrader hboot first).

So, what do you want to do?

OK, you want to remove S-Off and go completely back to stock software?

If you have a recent AlphaRev HBOOT these are not removed by running an RUU (the older ones were). So if you want an RUU to undo the S-Off you need to first flash the downgrader hboot, which you can download from alpharev.nl. I assume you flash this then run the RUU with the phone in fastboot mode (I've never done this, and hope never to do so ;)). That procedure will return the phone to the original HTC software (whatever version was in the RUU) and wipe all user apps and data in the process.
