Root need unlock or not?

I just bought a HTC desire on ebay. It's from US Celluar. I wanna use T-mobile Pre-paid card later. Do I need unlock it?
If yes, any recommended website to buy unlock code?

Right. Put your new card in, if it says something kuje network locked or uregistered sim, then you'll need to unlock it.

I wouldn't use that unlock program if I were you. It's for GSM phones only! If your desire is from U.S. Cellular I'm pretty sure that it is CDMA.

From the xda page the author of the unlock program states: I've only tested it on Desire GSM and I do not recommend using it on CDMA devices; doing otherwise could lead to unpredictable results.

Well it would save him some time to not try and do something pointless. Also unpredictable results sounds ominous. It may bring on Armageddon LOL.

Well a CDMA has a very different radio. I assume it would either completely fail or brick the device. If anyone wants to test it and let us know for sure...
