Hi guys,

I've been struggling with an apparently very obscure issue with my S3, and I've searched the web far and wide with no luck so far. I'm hoping to try a different approach - asking other S3 owners to see if you can purposely recreate my problem. If it turns out that it can't be reproduced by anyone else, it may be due to some specific issue to my phone... anyways, here goes:

I'm on 4.1.2 Jellybean, stock touchwiz ROM, rooted, using Nova launcher as my default launcher.

I have set up a pattern lock screen in my Security settings. However, I also want the ability to quickly enable/disable the Lock Screen. So for example, I turn off the lock screen when I'm driving or at home, and enable it when I'm in public. This can be done via a variety of apps (tasker, widgetsoid, No Lock). The "No Lock" app is probably the simplest, free app to do this with.

Normally this mechanism works just fine.

The problem is, when I toggle the lock screen off, and I get a notification (such as incoming text), and I pull down my notification screen and then to click on the new notification, this immediately pops up my pattern lock screen. (even though it's supposed to be disabled). It also happens when I press any ongoing notification (such as the on-going wifi notification that you can't get rid on on the S3).

Note that this notification-triggers-lock behavior doesn't happen when screen is at is normal "Locked" state.

So my favor is ask you to try to duplicate this problem on your phones, so I'll at least know of this is specific to my phone, or a general thing that happens to all S3's.

If you would like to try this out, here's how you should be able to reproduce this:

1) Set up a pattern lock on your phone
2) Download the "No Lock" app from the Play Store (it's free)
3) Use the No Lock app or widget to turn off your lock screen
4) Pull-down your notification screen, and click on the on-going Wifi notification (or any other notification you might have)
5) See what happens.

I appreciate anyone that does this and tells me if you get the same issue I do.

I wanted some security in case of loss\theft but found it an arse to have the screen locked by code or pattern. Therefore I now use Applocker to protect stuff like Google Play, Facebook, Twitter etc.

This means I have quick access to phone but know that sensitive apps are protected.

Yeah i like how you can set the delay before it locks and add your own background to the pin screen :)
I bought pro version just coz its a great app

Sorry for goin off topic Op :)

To OP. Felt guilty banging on about app lockers so I thought I would do what you suggested in your post.

I'm still unsure what this app is really supposed to do - but here is what I found.

After following your instructions and setting locking to disabled I found that if I let my screen go off and then click the power button to turn it on again I was returned to main screen with no swipe required.

However if I turn off the screen with the power button and then on again I am presented with the swipe pattern.

When the screen is on nothing happens when I mess with notification widgets at the top of the screen

^ that can be related to the timeout settings. there's something about locking immediately after screen times out, or to wait a few seconds.

btw, so there's Smart AppLock, AppLocker, and APP Lock?

i'd like to try one out, and i've seen one vote for each. but also APP Lock has the most reviews, and Smart AppLock has the most downloads.

The "No Lock" app is just a quick way to disable your lock screen with one click (or re-enable it with one click). It should do the same thing as going through all the steps inside Settings to turn on/off the pattern lock.

Also, the notification widgets (BT, GPS, ect) do not trigger this immediate lock screen on my phone either (or the brightness slider), but the stuff below that DOES. Can you try again but this time push something toward the bottom of your pull-down screen? I assume you have the On-going wifi thing like all S3s, that should trigger it.

To recap:
- With a pattern lock defined and set inside your Settings
- Used "No Lock" to turn off your the lock screen
- While the screen is on, pull down your notifications screen
- press the "Ongoing wifi" notification portion of the screen.

Thanks for trying this btw

Can't test at the moment as at work.

Can't speak for other app lockers but App Lock Pro allows you to stop the uninstall of itself. Obviously pretty key if someone gets hold of your phone.

Got a hand on a friend's S3, on AT&T, everything stock, no root no nothing.

Exact same problem can be reproduced. Guess this is indeed a general issue, just not one that people encounter unless they have the same ideas I do about pattern locking the phone.

I will have to give one of those app locking apps a shot. But it seems it's just trading one headache for another.
