Netflix....General Question

If you like watching TV shows, netflix is great. They also get some newr movies from time to time. It seems they have a contract with Stars, so anything available with regular stars on demand is available on Netflix. That is how we watch newer movies over netflix. I personally do streaming only. It keeps us entertained enough, and redbox is always available if I want to rent a movie or two. With that I don't need to predetermine what I am watching as you do with the netflix que, and I more or less get to watch what I want when I want. I'd say we burn 15-20 hours a week on Netflix streaming alone and I have never had issues with it. One user here about busted a n** stating that it ocassionally skips and is unacceptable. I get a skip once or so every 15 shows I watch. To me, that is fine. Hell, you run that same risk renting a scratched DVD, right? Netflix is also really good at suggesting material, so long as you are diligent about rating the movies you watch. Whenever I am browsing and see a movie I have not yet rated but have already seen I make it a point to give it a rating. It helps during those times when I just don't know what to choose but want to kill an hour or two before bed.

There are talks about netflix getting new movies on instant stream as well as HBO and showtime content and having a tiered pricing (something like $30 a month for the all you can eat package). If/when this happens I am getting rid of cable, beefing up my internet speeds, and singing up for the all you can eat package. I will spend less than or equal to what I do now and be able to watch anything anywhere I want.

Until Netflix gets a better streaming library... I'm going to wait to reactivate my account. Sony pulled out for now and lost quite a few movies that I enjoyed. Right now I just can't find anything to watch that I haven't already seen. I'll just stick with my Hulu Plus for now.

IMO Hulu Plus is borderline criminal. I am FORCED to watch ridiculous commercials every 5-10 minutes that I cannot fast forward to. On top of that, there is content that can only be watched online (including the Simspons). All this for $8 a month (my girlfriend insists... so we pay). And these companies wonder why people acquire their content by other means.

The instant library sucks for movies and current tv, but not enough to give it up b/c of the new price. I have multiple shows in my queue with hundreds of episodes. Going the less legal route is just too much work.

That's good to know. I was going to give Hulu Plus a try, but if I still have to watch commercials even though I am paying I am just going to skip trying it. That is why I DVR everything so I don't have to watch commercials!

That's poor Netflix coding for the xbox version. That's not an xbox problem. There is a difference. As I stated previously, root will not change that. If Netflix doesn't have the app available on the Market, it's not available for your phone. Gingerbread is not a requirement to run Netflix.

well whether that is a netflix problem xbox problem or just internet, doesnt really matter to me, netflix runs better on playstation 3 for me so to me netflix is better on ps3, its simple as that

and Id also like to add the fact that to be able to watch netflix on and xbox360 consol you also have to have an xbox live gold account (although I dont know anyone who actually has a xbox connected to the internet and doesnt have gold, but I believe its the principle behind that part)

last 2 days.. netflix on ps3 menu system has been very basic... not normal. it is similar to xbox menu.

anyone else have this?

I sure hope it is not permanent.

Right now I don't even have my PS3 on my network, lame I know, but netflix has been working fine on my iPad and nexus

I do... I like streaming content off of my media center onto my tv, and it's great for that. Still not sure how they justify requiring a gold account to use netflix... which is why my xbox will never run netflix (unless they change that restriction).

I think it's great and hope it's here to stay. Much more information conveyed on my screen at one time.

that is fine that you dont use it..

i am saying .. for us that do... on the ps3... with this new menu system....
where is the genre selection? where?

Sorry. I thought the answer was implied in my response. In short, I think they nixxed it (or, hopefully, they are making something better, since the one they had was pretty weak compared to their browser version).

Know what I want? To be able to SEARCH based on Genre, Actors, Directors, etc.

You may have already figured this out, but the genre selection is still there, it is just in your base list. The list starts with "Instant Queue", followed by "Recently Watched". From there the genres start, and you get "Dark Action and Adventure" all the way to "Thrillers".iLooking through it, tt doesn't seem to be alphabetized. This might be a dynamic list based on your favorite types of genres, but don't quote me on that.

i noticed that.... but the list is missing many options... and changes each time you log on.

ex: foreign movies

Hmmm, perhaps then it is a dynamic list generated by what you watch most frequently? Who knows. Hopefully they are allowing an actually search by genre in the future. That would make the most sense, IMO. On their website one can search by genre, actor, director, etc. Very powerful/useful. AFAIK this has never been incorporated into any netflix app on any platform.

oh well there ya go lol, i dont understand why the require people to have a gold account to be able to use netflix i think thats pretty stupid, i mean even when sony and playstation were have those problems with being hacked for like almost a month i could still watch netflix haha, its probly just microsoft trying to make more money, not like they dont have enough

I don't see how there can be any other reason other than to make more money. I know online services ARE available with the free silver account. I used to play FFXI and occasionally played on the 360. All that was required was the free silver account. I don't play online games. I certainly won't be paying $50 a year extra just to get online with netflix.
