Help Network issues or bad phone?

My Nexus loses data connection quite often (evidenced by the signal bars being grey and no internet access). I've not noticed it very often until a week or so ago.

It seems that my 3G signal loses MAY have coincided with my new truck (Ford Raptor, Yay!) purchase. It has Ford Sync and for the first time I am using bluetooth regularly. I have always left WiFi on (since I am in a WiFi zone at least 80% of the time) but with my truck I use NFC task launcher and toggle between wifi and bluetooth as I get in and out of my truck.

I've notice that I seem to lose data with those exchanges. I did a full reset and it doesn't help.

Is my phone bad or is this a known issue when toggling radios frequently? If it helps, in addition to toggling bluetooth and Wifi using NFC task launcher, my fully stock, non-rooted Nexus is switched to 3G only for battery's sake.

Thanks.

Can't speak for NFC launcher as I don't use it. but you probably don't need to switch WiFi off in truck. you can also set it to sleep while screen is off.

When your signal goes grey, does it still have 3G icon on it? If so, it's still connected to internet but only google service is down.

Thanks for the reply.

You may be right about not needing to turn off WiFi. I was just trying to conserve battery. My thinking was also if the NFC tag will swap one, why not two, right?:D

I am not sure about the 3G signal, but I cannot sync my widgets, I do not receive email and I cannot access websites, amazon.com app doesn't work. I'm guessing that that is full internet or does it fall under Google service outage since it is a Google phone?

Are you thinking that switching WiFi on and off may be causing my issue and not the phone itself?

Then you lost data connection, not just google service. Try leaving WiFi on, and see if that helps with holding connection. In my experience, leaving WiFi on Nexus actually helps with battery a little as opposed to common thought.

Thanks. I will try leaving WiFi on and see if that helps. I called tech support today and (knock on wood) the level two guy gave an estimated March 1 for 4.0.4 though he did say anything can happen to delay it.

BTW, today I looked at whether or not I had a 3G and I did. Still no data at all as described before.
