Network settings

Your phone has a voice aspect and a data (internet) aspect. Always enable mobile data allows your phone to be able to use data instantly, without first connecting to the network. Obviously this then allows you to get online, receive emails, apps that use the internet etc.

I used to have it enabled. It meant when I turned on my phone, the internet was connected and ready to go (and also meant my apps, like email, could auto-sync all day long), instead of having to wait a few seconds while it connected to the network.

Then I realised its a massive battery drain having it on all day, and got Green Power instead which only turns it on when the screen is on and every 15 minutes so apps can sync

Depending on your data plan costs it can also lead to a big bill!
