Network vision & LTE rollout

i don't remember reading anything about them rolling out evdo rev B but i guess they could be if its just software to get a jump on speed everywhere why they wait for hardware upgrades with network vision.

if you install the CDMA field test app from the market it will tell you what EVDO revision you are running. or depending on your phone it might tell you in the "about phone" section.
 
OK, this is some pretty crazy stuff... 4G at my house, full bars... Unreal...

No, sometimes I get one. Full bars is highly unusual. I do usually get very good 3G.

EDIT: I should clarify that I never received full bars of 4G itself until a few days ago for a brief period, then it went to one or no bars. Today it was on consistently and reached full bars several times. 3G has been pretty good but within the last few days speeds have gone up considerably.

My regular phone reception is usually 4-6 bars.

My impression is that at the time the article was written you are correct. That was three weeks ago so it is possible that they are at the very least doing some sort of tower preparation. I guess it is still speculation at this point but I can tell you that I am seeing speeds that up until now I could only attain when in downtown Nashville.
 
I realize this has nothing to do with the Tampa area but lately I have noticed about those same 3G speeds or better consistently about 10 miles outside the Nashville TN area. Imho if other areas are reporting occurrences like this then I believe at the very least some tower testing and preparation is going on.
 
This is the updated (8/30/2011) 3G coverage map for my area. This fits with the 3G speed increases I've been noticing.

This is the updated 4G coverage map which appears to be pretty accurate because I can now get at least one bar of 4G consistently in my house.

Honestly it will take something like this improvement if sprint plans to keep it's head above water. Most areas in my town data coverage is either slow or non-existent. The coverage map shows an update to mine on 8/30/11 too. I'll check it out and see if it really improved.

thats nothing. wish i did a screen shot but i was getting 13 meg down and about 1 1/2 up at my church the other day on 4g(they have a tower for clear tho hehe)
 
There is absolutely no improvement in my densely populated tech savvy area. I just tested and the ping is at a great 93ms but download is only 518kbps and weirdly upload is faster at 663kbps. Something better be done soon.

Oh, and for some reason I'm not getting 4g at all today. I don't even get the crappy speeds or the 4g service that normally cuts in and out for no reason.

Come on Sprint! You can do better than this! Can't you?
 
For no reason at all 4g came on. I got 98ms ping, download at 1648kbps and upload is a pathetic 150kbps. That is abysmal!
 
There was only a very minor improvement in my area as well. Here's hoping they haven't finished the upgrade yet. You can still find me working while sitting under my favorite cell tower downtown. *sigh*
 
It will take time. I would say about Dec-Jan you will start to noticed the improvements..

Alot of it is sit and wait time then a ton gets done, then it is sit and wait again

Lots of coordination, permitting and getting people to do their jobs..
 
They might have to do some permitting with the FCC to change their equipment but if they're upgrading existing facilities there won't be any municipal permits to do. Once it's in place it's considered maintenance...

If the equipment wasn't in place and active yet, imo they shouldn't have upgraded the coverage maps for my area. Just sayin'...
 
Things are just getting started. From the webcast: "aggressive" roll out of 4G LTE on 1900mhz (vs the current 2500mhz freq), eliminating iDen by 2013. More to come...

Lightsquared's 1600
Clear's 2500
 
LTE network buildout to be 'mostly complete by the end of 2013'
Committed to wimax by selling devices through 2012
