Help NetworkLocationPassiveCollector wakelock

Has anyone managed to get to the bottom of this yet?

It appears to be a problem since Google Maps was updated to v6.0.0
Initially I thought the update to v6.0.1 fixed it, but this has since proved not to be the case.

I'm doing some experimenting with my weather widget on how it detects its location, so I will report my findings after I've compiled enough info.

Is there anywhere that we can download the version prior to v6 in the meantime (ie. v5.?)

Yea it was killing my battery

ive gone back to version 5.12 from here [link removed] and the wakelock has gone

I dont have a weather widget either, nothing i know of on my phone is collecting my location as ive disabled it all. Its just maps being crappy from what i can see

Personally I've just stuck maps in quarantine using app quarantine free from the market. I've set it up with a quick unlock widget which let's me lock and unlock with one press whenever I need. Not as ideal as it not draining your battery in the first place but it works for me.
