Root never tried rooting b4

I've never rooted before... and am thinking about it as I've got probably about 3-6 months left with my D1 b4 I possibly pick up the Bionic or the Thunderbolt.

Compared to 6-12 months ago, there really wasn't a whole lot of easy "how to's" for Rooting, ROMs, ReFlashing and all that stuff...

Can anybody point me to in the right direction to easily Rooting and whatever else I would need to know? Installing ROMs, ReFlashing, etc?
