Never use Google contacts, ever.

I'm NOT paranoid. I just want to be a pain in the butt! I simply see no reason to cooperate. Most advertising is total BS anyway and that's what Google wants you to see everywhere.

I cannot see how to add an existing contact to these nor how to see which of my contacts are in these places

You can't change the contact storage location after the event afaik; the only solution is to export the contact(s), delete the existing entries and reimport to the new location.

If you open a contact then select "edit" the storage location is displayed at the top of the entry e.g. Google contacts show your account name.

Don't think I've ever met anyone who wanted to be a pain in their own butt. I guarantee your not even an itch to them.

If you just want to avoid ads seems simpler to install Ad-block+ and be done with it.

I want to completely prohibit any of my contacts from ever being stored as "Google Contacts". I never want any of my contacts to be stored on Google or in any other "cloud"..

What is the problem with storing your contacts in the cloud? Are you involved in criminal activity? Do you consort with shady characters?
Are your contacts top secret government agents? What is it that you think Google is doing with this information? Inquiring minds want to know.:o

Some of us would rather keep our business to ourselves and not have it opened up to all and sundry. If you're happy doing that then fine. Just let the rest of us keep ourselves to ourselves.

Maybe contact is paranoid. Have you ever considered a contact's preferences?

It's simply wanting none of Google's pushing to have all info and provide all services. I want a choice of where to store stuff. If the cloud goes down (some have) and I want my stuff, I want it NOW, and not have to wait for a business to get their IT dept. in gear. Stored on my own devices, I can have it when I want it. No fussing about a typoed password, errors, etc.

So to have instant and secure access, I store it offline. Since I already have stuff stored, why should I use the cloud? Duplicate effort and inefficient.

Keeping a local backup is common sense to keeping anything on the cloud.

Why use it at all then? Convenience. It syncs automatically. You dont need to make a new backup each time you get 1 new number.

I always felt that If I was a law abiding citizen then I had nothing to hide and no secrets to protect.
Why do we lock our doors at night? Why use sealed envelopes to send mail? Why do data protection laws exist? Because privacy is still important to us as human beings.

Please enlighten me as to how my privacy is being invaded by Google.
Your privacy may well not be, but others may feel less comfortable. Neither is 'right' or 'wrong', 'true' or 'false'.
