New .14 update is out

It was meant as a joke...........the only thing that will fix, falsely advertised GPS, is to buy a Garmin !

I was hoping so. Actually, I think that at least one vendor -- might even have been Apple -- fixed perceived reception problems by changing the algorithm for calculating the number of bars. In other words, the signal reception was exactly the same, but now it showed more bars at that level!

And while I never would expect to replace my Garmin with something like this, better GPS would be nice in some circumstances for apps that can use your location and the Wifi location service is inadequate or maybe there's no Wifi available.

Updated. I had a problem with the DCMclient when I searched for the update.. it would continuously crash after the firdt attempt. I rebooted, cleared its data and then tried the scan again and it worked. No issues as of yet.

I have found that the battery is still draining when hibernating after the update. I also see the flickers are back when I pull up the side bar to show all the running applications...

batt drain was only prob since last update, it got little better but still has small drain, went from lasting 4 days easy with steady use to 2 days with little use

I updated and installed earlier today and browser performance is a lot better. No freezing on engadget.com or joystiq.com. wifi seems about the same, and no gps still.

There is no hibernate capability that I know of. Pressing the power switch briefly just turns off the screen, it doesn't stop anything else. Or you can shut the tablet down completely. Turning off the screen display is not hibernating, the common definition of which is writing all RAM to disk as is, and then shutting down. On awakening from hibernating, the memory file is read from disk and things are as they were when hibernated, but it takes about as long as a complete reboot. Suspend means to stop everything, using just enough power to keep RAM refreshed. The Prime does neither of these, AFAIK, it just shuts off the screen, and of course the battery will be used, there is no way to prevent that in that condition. It's not a bug, it's just the way the tablet was designed, and it's not different from many, if not most, tablets.

I can't update. It downloads, but the update fails every time. The little droid falls over and dies. After several minutes the device reverts to the previous state.

Are you updating from .13 or .11/11.1?

I didn't take the .13 update since it screwed with the clock speeds and battery, and I had no issues with 11.1 Apparently you need to go to .13 first, then .14

I had to download .13 manually from the Asus site, and then take .14 to get it to take. I was also rooted, and had changed some of the system files so that's another thing to check. Make sure you have all the system files in place.

Also keep in mind that if you manually have to load .13 it will break root. However after updating to .14, I rooted again with no problems.

I'm hoping this will be last time ill need to root, ive rooted maybe 5-6 times so far.. I keep waiting for the bootloader unlock tool so I don't have to deal with this BS everytime an update comes out.

True about the hibernate. As far as turning the screen off. Your tablet will go into a deep sleep mode during inactivity. It wakes to check your accounts at the defined times or to receive push services. You can download CPU Spy from the market to make sure your tablet is going into deep sleep.

Can I just ask has anyone in the UK been able to apply any of the updates since the Camera Firmware update - I mean OTA

I was just about to post that I'm in the UK and had had no updates, but I thought I'd better check again first - lucky I did because there's now one available!

I should point out that I don't have my serial no. listed under 'about', either. Oh hang on, you have to tap on 'status' first. There it is.

Updating ... updating ... updating ... done.

Build number is now IML74K.WW_epad-9.4.2.14-20120214.

I have .13 installed now, and haven't been able to update to .14. That might be a good thing, according to much I've read, but I can't be sure. I'm having no problems with .13.

Did that and it is still toast. Just keeps throwing the error message and rebooting. I don't think I can keep it running long enough to download a kernel image to return to the previous kernel.

Got an RMA and it went back to Asus today. Fingers crossed.

New update working well here, wifi speed has increased GPS works outdoors which is pretty normal.

The only thing I noticed from the update from .13 to .14 is my battery life is GREATLY improved.

I think I was one of the ones with battery drain (which .14 was suppose to adress).

Went from a few hours of battery life, to days.


Loving my Prime now.

.13 pretty much killed the battery in no time which is why I skipped that 'update'.

It didn't allow the CPU to drop below 475mhz and kept all cores on all the time. Not surprising battery life was awful for most people.

.14 addressed both those issues with the kernel update.
