New 4 XL owner

Not sure if this will be read (I'm in the wrong forum??) but I've just acquired a 4 XL.

Will probably have a lot of questions. Is this the best place to ask them??

Thanks all. First Q..... I assume mine will arrive with Android 10.

Good idea to upgrade to 12, assuming that Google will allow it? I plan to Unlock BL, root it, install TWRP and MAGISK.

Over on XDA Devs, rarely does anyone respond to me; just a bunch of snobs, I guess.
 
It might come with 10, 11 or 12 on it depending where the stock came from, but yeah bring it up to 12 right away. As far as rooting it, you should be careful if you intend to use Google pay or banking apps. Rooting will break those.
 
After you update everything make sure that unlocking the bootloader is the first thing you do as it will wipe the device. Even if you don't root right away, at least get that unlocked before you start customizing your phone. Also, make a stock backup with TWRP before you root, just in case.

Haha after a year and a half I wanted to try this folding craze I upgraded to the Motorola razer at the start of this year found it too slow 6 months later got the fold 3, really loved the screen but after a couple of months it started lagging for me. I just can’t leave Google phones they are so snappy and pure. Back to the pixel! Got a 6 now

z fold 3 lagging? i have haad my z fold 3 from day one and no lag for me. i love my big screen......don't think i will ever be able to go back to a smaller screen.....LOL

Actually there is a work around for this.... My LG V20 was rooted and I still was able to use Google Pay. I forgot how I did it however; might have been done with Magisk, IIRC.

Two negative for me on the 4 XL is no external SD card and no fingerprint scanner. Neither is a deal breaker for me.

Have upgraded to Android 12 and I think that's the first time I've had a device on current version since back around Android 2.3 (2010).

Right now I my biggest issue is getting a USB "stick" to be recognized. The old LG, just plug the stick (using an adapter) to the USB-C port and I was good. Not so now....... Get something about drive not formatted correctly. I sure hope this newer device only supports .ex4 File system.
