Hi folks first off let me say I love the site and have found it very helpful. I am sorry if this is in the wrong section but feel free to move it.
My problem is I am not sure how to proceed I have a Galaxy s2 its running vodafone Ireland branded firmware and is rooted I am using on three Ireland. I bought this phone used and it was rooted when I bought it. Its running on gingerbread 2.3.3 baseband I9100BUGK1 build number GINGERBREAD.BUKG2.
What I would like to do is update it as it fails when I try to do so and possibly get it to run on three Ireland firmware. Anyone able to give me a step by step guide? Also will this wipe the phone? Thanks in advance.:)

I'm going to move this to the rooting section for the Galaxy S2 (i9100). They will most likely be able to help you.

Personally I wouldn't bother flashing three firmware as its bought second hand and rooted so no warranty anyway, and by doing so you would be waiting for updates a lot longer. So read this link and flash the kk5 firmware. Its the latest one I can actually vouch for, I've heard of problems with the kl's.
[ROM+Guide]Official i9100 Firmwares KG, KH, KI, KJ1/2/3, KK1/2/5, KL1/3 Download - xda-developers

If you want to keep your phone rooted you will need to reroot using this guide
[01.01.2012][CF-Root 5.2] KE/F/G/H/I*, KJ1/2/3, KK2/5, KL1/3, KP1/2/4/8 -su+bb+CWM4/5 - xda-developers

If you run into any problems just ask before you try and me or someone else will be happy to help

Hello and welcome to Android Forums hallo dare!

I won't beat about the bush... did you buy your handset from a reliable vendor?

The reason I ask is that it seems odd that your second hand phone worked at first and now doesn't.

First of all we have to determine whether the handset is not working because of, maybe, something you did in flashing or if it is a contract phone that the operator has blocked because of non-payment of the contract by the vendor, or, if it is indeed a stolen phone. Again, blocked.

You could try using a different sim card in it and see if that helps... borrow one from a friend.

One way of checking if the phone has been blocked, if you live in the UK, United States or European Union, is by going to this site:-

CheckMEND Country Selection

If your phone is blocked, for whatever reason, there is nothing that can be done I'm afraid.

If all of the above have been tried, then type in the following on your dialpad...

*#1234#

This will bring up 4 lines of information:-

PDA, Phone, CSC and build info.

Also go to Settings > About phone and make a note of Model number, Android version, Baseband version, Kernel version and build number

and post that, together with the other information.

Hi Ironass,

Thanks for helping. I done as you said and got a check done, everythings perfect there. The phone came unlocked and worked grand on my 3 sim for about two weeks then just stopped. If i force 3g then im told phone cannot connect, try later. But this means i loose all reception and have to restart my phone to put it back to 2g just so i have an operating phone. I live in ireland and i'm on PAYG with 3Ireland. All APN settings are correct. So just to be clear on this mess, the problem occured before i flashed anything, i only flashed to try and resolve the issue.

Heres what i get when enter 1234:

Pda: I9100XWKI8
Phone: I9100XXKI4
CSC: I91003IEKI2
Build info : Wed Sep 28 20:51:36 KST 2011

Here's the rest.
Android version 2.3.5
Baseband I9100XXKI4
Kernel 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKI8-CL616395
root@DELL149 #2
Build number GINGERBREAD.XWKI8

I really hope you can help me out on this as it's so annoying for to have spent such big money on a phone that you would expect to work just fine.

Thanks again for helping

I'm going to have to +1 on this question/answer. At the moment, you haven't given us solid evidence that the vendor is reliable or that the phone isn't blocked.

The phone could have been working for a few weeks until the provider found out payment wasn't being made and blocked the phone from use. That's the danger with secondhand phones. I'm not sure if you could get the police involved or anything either.

Is your APN set as three.co.uk? If it is try settings it to 3internet.co.uk. I used to have loads of problems with the first one.
Edit: ignore that you said 3ireland so that won't work.

You forgot to mention that you could get 2G in your original post!

OK... so you can operate on 2G. Therefore, obviously not blocked.

It seems odd that you had 3G and now don't.

The obvious thing to check is if their is any maintenance or upgrading work being carried out on your local masts. You'll have to contact 3 for this.

You could also check that you really do have the correct APN settings whilst you are on to them.

Long shot, but you could double check...

Settings > Wireless and network > mobile networks > network mode... and see if you have GSM/WCDMA (Auto mode), selected.

Hi guys.
Thanks for all the replies.i had already contacted 3 weeks ago and alls good their end.my apn settings are all good and ive already tried the trick of only selecting wcdma only.im just lost now.hoping that someone hada similar problem and got it resolved.is their any different firmware that might cure this.ill even go down the road of rooting if it helps.thanks.please dont forget bout me if you find a fix.thanks

Hi guys,

just an update on my situation. Had the phone sent to Samsung twice for a check and bothe times it came back perfect with test sheets showing all was perfect. I decided to have another check done on the phone and it now says that the phone is blocked!! What the hell!. When i checked first weeks ago all was good and now it says it's blocked, but i'm getting 2g signal, surely i should be getting nothing if it's barred.
I have no idea who the origional service provider was of the phone, is there any way of finding out who the origional provider was or is there any way of removing this barring?
Thanks

It's as I first thought in post #6 then.

Back to my original question, "Did you buy the phone from a reliable vendor?"

It would seem that the handset is either lost/stolen or that the seller has sold a contract phone on and ceased to pay the contract and the service provider has subsequently blocked the handset.

Either way, my suggestion is to contact the seller and demand a refund immediately. If you bought it through, say, eBay, you will have certain protections.

There seems little point in trying to find out who the original service provider was, as the handset is now a write-off.

Hope this helps.

As ironass said, there are several reasons for the phone to be blacklisted, none of which is very good for you. There is almost nothing you can do to get it unblocked as carriers tend not to be too sympathetic in these situations.
