New android devices?

Yes yes, we've heard all about the Desire, and Samsung Galaxy S and now these 3 Dell Superphones...

Yknow last year we also heard about an android phone, lancaster was it? and We heard whispers of Dell Mini 5...we hear alot of stuff mainly because of the frequency tests submitted to the FCC...but It doesnt seem to pan out it seems.

Just wanted to say thanks for this thread.

My mom is going to convert to Android and I had no idea what the options for her were on AT&T. Turns out they are pretty slim for now :(

I guess I'm going to point her in the direction of the Nexus One. Her current phone is one of the worst I have seen in a while, some sort of Blackberry knock-off with limited connectivity and VERY poor web rendering. It was torture to "play" with...

Unless she's absolutely desperate I would honestly hold off. AT&T promised 5 phones by June so there's only a month to go.

a keyboard? wow...

and now we must chant... "please dont suck please dont suck please dont suck"

The only thing that scares me that if this wasnt on the roadmap then AT&T perhaps has been developing this handset WITH htc meaning it could be more locked down that IPhone could dream of being.

Lets not get a head of our selves here.

A major portion of iphones locked down nature is from apple, not att.

Att doesn't want you removing the crappy bloatware programs, apple is the one who maintains an iron fist over iphone.

I think I've come to the realization that it's pointless to guess where AT&T is concerned. They're just as likely to make a WTF decision as they are to make a good one.

I'm starting to get concerned about them getting 3 more Android phones out before the end of June. Time is running out fast if they want to release them one at a time.

Edit; By the way, I was a lot more optimistic a month ago when I was expecting AT&T to release the Desire. Now it's looking like that Tilt2-clone-with-android will be the first HTC phone. They did say the HTC phone would be an AT&T exclusive.

But seriously, just release the phones already. The waiting is killing me. :)

Yes it is. I have already come to the conclusion that they will only announce these phones by June 30 if even that. And that they will not be avail for purchace until later in the year. It is not what I consider a phone launch but I am sure that is what they are going to do.

Very true on the guessing. As for them releasing the promised 5 before June... I think it's already too late. They'd have to launch them 2 weeks apart at this point which just seems totally pointless. At this point we don't even have the Dell Aero, just confirmation that it is indeed coming.

Yeah, gotta love that they actually have a Android filter on their phone selection part of their website, and all it shows is the dang backflop. Legend is a little sub par in hardware, and this mystery phone with the keyboard has God knows what on it. The Samsung Galaxy S looks promising, but we thought the desire was coming this way, so Galaxy S could easily be heading elsewhere as well....as for new phones by june...at this rate we'll be lucky to get the tiny Aero and maybe one more...

Knowing at&t, odds are they will lose all their current customers..

THEN come out with great phones.

Seriously unless some miracle happens their claim of 5 Android phones by June does not look like it is gonna happen.

when i went to the AT&T store and asked them about when they will start selling android phones, the servicer told me september.

The people in the stores most of the time know as much as us.

Less I'd say. They don't take the time to actually research things. They just bother with products when they release(typically anyway... there are always exceptions).

It depends on the individual. Some of them work there because they're really interested in the phones and/or technology. Some are there because they're really interested in a sales career, and some because it's a job. Those who are really on top of things probably know as much as we do, or only very slightly more.

I have a craptastic Samsung Dumbphone and am waiting for a decent Android to come out to upgrade to. I am locked to AT&T due to sharing a contract with my iPhone toting wife on a corporate plan.

Would love to see an official date for a Snapdragon phone, might jump on the Backflip or Aero and plan to swap out within 30 days...but not sure how many times i would have to pull that till a decent phone comes out.

Grr just found the Press Release and it says AT&T "Plans to.." That is VERY easy to weasel their way out of.

Where it can be remember it was an offical press release and investors will want to know why they did not keep it. Now if they are off my a month then I am sure investors will just not care.
What gets me is what they do on their FB page. They claim they are on schedule for the phones but then use the word announce instead of launch. Yet the press release says launch and when you look at even the stuff from the palm pre from this week on engadget it uses the word lauch and the date.
I am so flustrated with them it is not even funny.

BTW, AT&T is expected to get Xperia X10 by late July- AT&T Scheduled to Get Xperia X10 Late July, Who Cares? | AndroidGuys

Xperia is not a bad phone if there is a way to upgrade it to 2.1 (with stability).

Sooo if they launch the Areo by then as well, that would be three Android phones. If somehow the Galaxy S and HTC phone appear, that would be 5.

Now if they can get them all by July, then promise kept. Longshot but not completely unrealistic.

Actually June ends Q2 so they'd still be late.
