I rooted my bionic after the first update and now I tried to install the 2nd update but fails when phone reeboots. I delted a bunch of pre loaded apps and read that could be the problem but there was so many i deleted i forgot all of them all. What should i do? Thanks

If you have a nandroid backup taken before you deleted the apps, you could restore that. In future you should always freeze apps instead of deleting so you can defrost them for updates.

If a nandroid backup is not available, here's a crazy idea. I read that the .901 to .902 update (found in post #38 of this thread) does not check for bloatware. So ... if you can get the .901 leak to install, then you could update from there to .902 and get around the problem.

I'm not sure if the .901 leak checks for bloatware though. Anyone know?

... and an alternate opinion ... fix the problem now.

If you push off the solution when the next one comes out you are going to go through a whole new collection of problems.

Restore now and if you must diddle with the pre-installed apps then "freeze" instead of "delete".

How would he fix it though? Does factory reset even restore missing apps? I thought I read that it did not.

He wasn't talking about a condition that you should ever expect a factory data reset to recover. Instead he was root-ed by third-party software and had deleted a bunch of apps using third-party software.

There are third-party software solutions to this third-party induced problem. They are discussed in ... Bionic - All Things Root - Android Forums ... and one of them is essentially ... throw away everything ... go back to "out of the box" stock and start over.

If you are going to enter into this realm of activity ... make ABSOLUTELY sure you have a backup./recovery strategy that allows you to continue into the future. Otherwise you are going to be spending hours and in some cases days working through issues that you introduced into your Bionic.

You're right ... it is a lot of work ... then when you're back there have a good recovery strategy worked out so yo NEVER have to go back to stock again.

One strategy is ... don't root unless you have a REALLY GOOD reason to do so.

Another strategy was also recommended to you here that was to take a backup.

The other one is NEVER delete apps. Freeze them if you must.

What you have to assume is that there will be other updates after 5.9.902 and you have to be able to get them installed without standing on your head (again). They are going to rquire that the pre-installed apps are present or the update will fail.

Thanks Thom.. I posted a thread in the root section on how to go back to stock hopefully I get a reply soon.

If I flash it back to 875.5.5 will I be able to do all of the new updates?

There is no such release as the one you listed/asked about...

There are many posts in the All Things Root forum area on how to get back onto the update path and even on how to reset back to stock if you choose...

Yes. All previous ones have checked for pre-installed apps. I'm not 100% sure of the latest 901 --> 902 does not, but I have the file on my phone and can verify if it does or does not.
