Root New "Bugless" 2.01+2.1 apps ROM...

GrandMasterB - you helped me too. I was getting status 21 errors. You mentioned that the directories might be too deep. That made me look at my folders again. I had renamed the BB folder to "bugless beast" - including the space. It turns out that a space will cause status 21 errors as well.

Anyways, thanks.

Sorry to be so stupid on this, but are you referring to the Bugless Beauty thread on AllDroid?

I dont think I am in the right place over there... Could someone possibly IM me a link?

Thanks!
This thread is about the "bugless beauty"
peta at alldroid has changed the name of since this thread started. Maybe the mods can change the name of this thread to "Bugless beauty discussion"

Joe,

Any chance you can put together a quick HOWTO on getting the latest Bugless, and applying the overclock mod to it? I'm going to upgrade from v4 this afternoon (finally!), and am thinking I want to try overclocking it while I'm at it.

Did you try Joe's link (I quoted it in post #223 above)?

Clickity click

Actually Pete's Bugless Beast already comes o/c'ed to 800. But I preferred to just load Pete's "Bugless Beauty" V.0.8.3 and handle the o/c'ing as a separate issue.

In your screenshot, you've got an overclock adjusting app. Is that compatible with Pete's, or do I need to modify it prior to installing?

I loaded BB 7.3. I did a side by side comparison and it is the same as 8.3. But 7.3 has the 800mhz over cook already installed. It is a noticible difference from 550mhz. You should try it. I have always done a complete nandroid back up withe Pete's roms, just a matter of preference.

I would load up the overclocked ROM of this but I'm waiting until the overclocking is built on the new kernel and not the old one.

In the Alldroid Droid Development section, find the Tasmanian_Droid section, and follow the instructions in the Overclock thread (the one w/the most replies).

It's pretty straightforward..you can use one of the nandroid overclock images there and do a nandroid restore of the boot part of the image.

It's actually Bugless Beast 7.1 - he hasn't upped the version number.

I had a bunch of problems w/7.1 - choppiness of performance and freezes, and some FCs (it has wifi tether and VPN as well as overclocking).

8.3 w/the 900 nandroid overclock boot image installed is problem free for me, other than the autobright issue.

So I'm doing a lot of reading, and I'm not totally clear: If I have Bugless Beauty (not Beast) 8.3, can I replace the boot image with the overclocked one and be good to go?

Also, how can I tweak the clock speeds after it's installed? I see screenshots of sliders and such - I presume I have to install an app?

I've seen that down-side noted, but I really haven't been troubled by the use of the original kernel...

When I compared, I found 3 other additional functions on 7.1: Wireless Tethering App (which I think you can get at the link for Google Code and add to Beauty 8.3 if you wish), working manual Brightness and Flash Image.

My fault on the incorrect name. I have switched so many times with his updates that I lost track.

I too would get some choppyness after a while and that is when I started doing full nandroid backups, instead of a zip update. Also cleared all data. It made a world of difference.

The multitouch gallery is the one that's loaded. It supports pinch-zoom.

The 'fun' one you're describing is the 2.1 gallery. It has nicer 3D effects, but does not support pinch-zoom.

Fabolous, I'll be grabbing one of these Bugless ROMs this weekend (probably 8.3). This will be my first new ROM, since I just rooted for the first time this weekend. I don't have a nandroid backup of the 2.1 gallery. Since I've heard a number of times that it's nicer than the Milestone Multi-Touch Gallery, I'd like to be able to try it. Do you know where I can get file?

If you know where to get the bugless ROM, then you're at the right place. It's there, but you may have to do a little more looking because it's probably buried on the 2nd or 3rd page.

It's just an installable .apk file. There's no such thing as a 'nandroid backup' of the 2.1 gallery :D

Thanks Fabolous -- I'll be able to find it now that I know generally where to look. And I understand what you're saying about the backup; what I was alluding to was the following quote and not having a backed up .apk file for the 2.1 gallery to install.

OK, I do have a nandroid backup. Did it before I moved from 0.5 to 0.8.

But all I really want to do is enable the 2.1 gallery. If I restore from that backup, I assume that I will restore to the 0.5 ROM, yes? Is there a way to have 0.8 running with the 2.1 gallery?

Will someone knowlegable PM me and help me get this ROM installed. I'm rooted, and my droid is back to its factory defaults, and I've tried and tried and can't get it to work. Please help.

Just sent you a PM with zip instructions, let me know if they work.

I actually PM'd Joe to ask this question, but then realized he's offline and I need some help right now!

I completed my first root and did my first nandroid backup. I've downloaded the 0.8.3 update.zip and nandroid backup from Pete at Alldroid, but I'm confused by the instructions there. I feel SOOO stupid! I believe I understand how to do the first part with the update.zip, but I don't understand what the next step (nandroid backup installation using Pete's backup file) does.

Do I install them both, in the order they're presented? I would really appreciate some help from you guys who have done this before! Thanks in advance.

Edit: I've read the instruction a few more times, and I think I'm getting that those are ALTERNATIVE instructions for installing 0.8.3, so you do one or the other. Is that correct?

No.

The update.zip file is for bringing your rom from any 2.0.1 ROM (including stock) to the 0.8.3. It keeps your apps intact.

A nandroid backup is a complete restore. It just so happens that you're restoring from a different file than one you might have on your phone. You will lose all your apps, your accounts, etc. and have to restore them all.

Do one or the other.

I would suggest that you try the update.zip.

Make sure you have the SirPsychoRecovery version 09.2b (or is it 0.99.2b?).

connect the phone and mount it.
Place the update.zip on the root of your sd card.
unmount your phone
Reboot into recovery
Make a nandroid backup -> Advanced backup / restore -> name backup -> type name in on keyboard -> create backup.
Allow install update.zip
Install update.zip
Reboot.

Needsdecaf, thanks so much for that helpful response!! I think I've successfully installed the ROM. It looks like all my apps are here -- but I need to set up all my folders and widgets on the desktop again. Is that correct?

I'd like to hear from anyone running the 8.3 ROM who is also overclocked...I've been running the Tas 900mhz overclock boot.img fine for the last day or so, and decided to try the 1.1 boot.img tonight.

I flashed the boot.img file, and also tried it via nandroid restore, and both times never get past the Motorola logo when I try to boot up.

For those running 1.1 overclock image with 8.3 - did you have any issues getting your phone to boot after loading the boot.img? Any tweaks you'd recommend. I want 1.1!!! ;)

BTW - I did load the 1.0ghz overclock, and it booted fine...not sure why the additional .1 isn't working.
