new contact

is there any way to default a new contact to your google account?

ive had my spectrum for a couple months so ive learned to change it manually.. but it has caused me to lose numbers in the past between flashes.. i hate the way it saves new contacts to the phone like that...

I would think if you synced your account to your phone then eveything would be merged giving you a back-up in w/ your google account. the same can be done with Yahoo! as well.

When I was moving to this phone I backed/synced my phone with my gmail account and once I fired up my Spectrum I just resysnced to my gmail and it populated my contacts.

It *should* do so automatically.

Do you have Backup Assistant installed? If so, remove it and all contacts will sync to your Google account.

i just figured it out.... remove backup assistant and it defaults to save contacts under gmail...

;) yessir. The only problem with doing that is you can't take your BA contacts and move them to Google, so when you remove the app, you remove the contacts in that app.

I moved mine to Google by exporting to SD card, then when you import them back you can save them to Google.

i had never setup BA.... and since i got my replacement spectrum i knew to change the account it saved to.. so i didnt lose anything when i removed it..

i tried backup assistant once back in 09 with a samsung omnia... but gave up on it once i realized very few people were adding it into their roms

Well that's a glimmer of hope that they fixed the export in BA. When I did it on my wife's X, it was a mess... 2 and 3 of the same contact and screwed up names. It took me hours to clean it up in her Google Contact portal.

That happend with my wife's phone when we used the HTC BA she had triple listings somehow. This last time it went much smoother. No dbl entries but it missed a lot of contacts, same with me but oh well.

when i got my ally, backup assistant wasnt available on android yet or at least that phone, so before i upgraded, i went to the backup assistant page in myverizon online and exported it to CSV and imported into google, some minor cleanup and all was well
