I guess I can understand somewhat about itunes. I was with tmo for ten years and had a sidekick since 2001. When I got an iphone, I already had all my music ripped with the excewption of a few albums I bought on -tunes (its rare I buy a whole album) but after 6 weeks of dropped calls and poor audio quality I went back to tmo and they welcomes me with open arms I just dropped my ripped stuff back into a SK2008 until the G1 was released. Never looked back. I don't see the iphone as competition to something like android at this point. Closed thinking and innocation inward only. WebOs maybe.
In anyevent there might be a tool out there to strip the DRM from your itunes library. Google for it.
