I just got one and looking forward to getting the best from it. This is my first smartphone, so I guess I'll be using the search feature a bunch. Any tips for a newbe?

Tips: Absolutely! Firstly and above all, get used to your phone. Find out all it can do. Download some apps (always read the comments left by users of the apps because some apps may not be too compatible with the Droid X. They'll say that in their reviews, if it is so.)
Avoid Task killers as they destabilize your phone and cause you need to reboot a lot. The problem is fixed once you delete the task killers.
Finally, after you get used to the phone, you may want to root it, in order to get more out of it. Here's the section to follow, when and if you're interested: www.androidforums.com/droid-x-all-things-root
Good luck! Congrats on the phone!
The challenge with task killers is that tend to work at cross purposes with the Operating system. Android was written in such a way to minimize the need for task killers. For example in Android 2.2, automatic killing of tasks is no longer allowed by the OS. When you run a task killer on newer Android phones it's quite possible for the OS to waste precious resources as it spends more CPU resources re-creating the tasks that your task killer killed.
