Help New Epic 4G User-Coming from Blackberry

Hey everyone,

I just came over to the Samsung Epic from a Blackberry Tour and had some questions of things I have been unable to figure out.

1. I have been able to find where to turn notifications on and off, however, is there any place to control the blinking LED notification by itself? On the Blackberry I was able to have it not blink for emails, but only SMS Texts and Phone calls. Basically, I still want the notification for new emails in the bar at the top of the screen, but I want to turn the LED light off.

2. I synced my calendar with my work Outlook Exchange account and it seems none of my appointments that are recurring show up. Any idea how to fix that?

3. I have Facebook synched for both calendar and contacts. For the calendar, even though I have declined an event, it still shows up in the calendar. Is there any way to fix this? Also, in text messages the pictures for contacts that show up when I search contacts from synching with facebook do not show up in text messages.

4. One other silly thing. In the notifications on the top of the screen, when I have a facebook notification they are coming in in gray, when I swear on the first day they were "facebook blue" Is there a color/display setting I inadvertently changed or is it gray for everyone?

Thanks

1. You probably need to set this within the individual apps.

2. No idea.

3. Pictures appearing in sms app is dependent on that app's settings. I use Handcent, so I'm not familiar with the stock message app anymore. But in handcent, you have the option to show pic or not.

4. Not sure, but again, I say go into the app settings and see if it's in there.

Thanks for your response, however, as I stated in my post "I have been unable to figure out" Which means I have already looked at the individual app settings etc. which is why I posted!

1. Try an app :p there is one I can think of Missed Call I'm pretty sure its called. There are a bunch of others that let you control your notification light also.

2. From your homescreen Menu>Settings>Accounts and sync>check your settings for your work email. Never synced with a corporate account so not sure on the calender thing. I know for personal accts you can do this and its a good work around :p Sync with Microsoft Outlook - Google Calendar Help

3. From your homescreen Menu>Settings>Accounts and sync>Add account and do your Facebook from there. You may have to go through your contacts and merge them with existing contacts and that should clear that up.

4. Not sure on the notification thing, I dont think you can change the color of it. But I'm running a custom theme and my notifications are all generally gray and dark lol

Welcome to a whole new world friend. I came from a BB before the Epic as well, and while there are some serious differences, I've come to completely love the Epic, and especially Android, more than ever.

The biggest thing you need to remember is BB was basically built for corporate email and such. Android, was not. Think "business powerhouse" vs. "personal powerhouse" and you'll start to get it. The other point in which BB dominates everything else is battery life. I'll give kudos to RIM on that one, they nailed battery life in my opinion. I've never used any of their touch screen phones though, so it may not be an apples to apples comparison. Android still has a lot of work to do with out-of-the-box phones in this regard.

It will take some time to get things the way you want them, as you can do just about anything with Android. Once you do though, you'll be so much happier.
