New features found in update!

So my phone will sleep with the stock messaging application now, but it doesn't prevent the battery from draining like crazy. When I went back to Handcent the battery usage went down quite a bit. I think I will just stick with Handcent just for the ability to customize and the popups....not to mention the battery life.

I noticed my battery is dieing really quick now. It went down about 10% in a matter of about 20 minutes.

Son of a bitch. I got excited by the newly found snappiness but when I just unplugged it from the charger 10 minutes ago it was at 100%. It is now at 96% and dropping fast.

$%^@!

Ya, I've noticed the same. That's weird. I guess I'll give it a few days and see how it goes but I might have to switch back to Handcent.

I'm not sure if the stereo fix is working properly. I did a soft reset and a stereo sound test and it still seems to be mono. When I do the old trick of making it think it's a headset, the stereo test comes out to be stereo. Everything else related to the updated seems to fine with the exeption of the stock messaging app, I'm sticking with Handcent.

Are you guys sure that it is stereo? Am I forced to try a hard reset?

Stereo for me after update. And glad, too. I hate toggling the headset widget to make it play in stereo. Something is wrong if yours is still playing mono after the update.

LOL. No, I'm sorry, I mean it has the snapback action when flicking through the programs launcher now. Instead of just stopping at the top or bottom, it travels farther and snaps back. I know some people were asking about that before.

Sorry for the confusion.
mine did that already before the update.

The camera seems to work better in low light conditions. has anyone noticed in low light, when you move around a bit, the camera blurs and lags until you stop...then you have to be extremely still to take a pic. that quirkiness seems to be gone. plus it seems to not be so dim either.

Bluetooth works!! Connects the first time, disconnects immediately when it should, switches seemlessly betwen calls and media, and doesn't bleed out any memory. :D Anything else they fixed is just icing on the cake as far as I'm concerned.

Anybody know how (without rooting, and preferably without a hard reset) I can get my internal storage memory back that was lost during the memory bleed? My first phone lost ALL of it & turned into a brick so they sent me a new one...which started with 140MB available, and is now stuck at 75 even though i've only installed about 20MB worth of apps & have cleared all my cache files I can find.

The whole phone works awesome now, so I probably won't bother fixing this if a reset is the only option...but it'd be nice to have access to all my memory.

I'm also looking for a way to gain memory back. I am not looking forward to adjusting ALL of my settings from the start. Lucky for me I use gmail for contacts and calendar. Anyone know of software to do a full backup like a blackberry?

HTC says all I can do is a factory reset. :( I'm not going to do it yet though because I don't feel like setting everything back up. I use exchange so the contacts & calendar are no problem, but I don't want to reinstall all the apps, rebuild the scenes, retrain the dictionary how to use profanity, import my gas mileage charts, blah blah blah blah blah. If the need ever arises I'll do it, but until then I'm avoiding it.

So if anybody figures out a way to get the memory back, please post it. I'm sure Jayrod & I aren't the only ones hoping for an option!

I noticed the phone is a bit more faster. But I cant tell if the battery has improved. From the looks of it. It seems to be the same. But then again I have 68 emails and I get text messages all day from Twitter and friends. So my Hero only really sleeps at night.

yay, i don't know if it has been mentioned on the other threads but, in the camera you can now zoom in with the trackball! so much easier than tapping and tapping and tapping... :D

i remember being able to do that before the update. i actually love the phone now after the update. before the update, this phone made me frustrated with the amount of bugs and performance issues. btw, i had to do a factory reset after updating because for some reason it didn't fix the bugs without that reset.

That is friggin awsome! I never knew...I just chalked it up as the zoom sucked to access

you could use the trackball to zoom in before the update.

the camera is leaps and bounds btetter.. much crispier in low light.. before it was just dark.. really diggin' that...

For those noticing battery drainage issues -

Linux (including Android) bases battery percentages in one of two ways:

1) Hardware metering - ie. the battery hardware tells the device how much juice is left

2) Historical averaging - ie. the system keeps track of usage along with battery voltage levels, and formulaically determines battery life remaining

I believe most phones would be using the latter, and as such deleting that battery history will have an impact on reporting. I get the same kind of thing when I replace the battery in my laptop, and this was what was plaguing the Samsung Moment owners (simply bad calculations)

It's highly likely this history is lost when flashing the new update, so it may be just a matter of re-training.

Let your phone drain down, perhaps even to empty, and charge it up to full overnight. This will reset the history properly and you should get more accurate reporting.

In my case I didn't need to do much. I had around 16MB left before the update (getting low memory warnings and all), and after still only had around 21MB free (Bluetooth was off before and immediately after update).

I re-enabled Bluetooth and allowed it to reconnect to my paired car for a drive. After reaching my destination and shutting the car off, I checked the phone and the memory had jumped back up to 128MB.

Didn't really have much of anything installed before the update (as I was forced to conserve space), so I'm not sure what else I may have done to regain the space.
