ok am i stupid or something, dont answer that!!!! i should be able to connect to my wireless router from my phone to get internet,right???? i've tried and tried, rebooted took out battery turned stuff on and off still only says scanning....connecting....disconnected...over,over, just wont grab my router signal. i guess not a big deal but it should and dont. annoying the hell out of me. sorry for long post.
ps even called verizon and the tech said he dont know why it wont connect.

Yes, it **should ** work. It isn't unheard of for a wireless device to not work with a particular router. For example, my kid's Wii wouldn't work with our router. The solution was to buy a new router (nice, right?). I guess this isn't an option if you router is from your ISP...
My X likes to not auto-connect to my router, sometimes. I'll have to go into settings and press connect for the network. Go figure.

I had this exact same problem with my X. After hours of troubleshooting I found a solution that could potentially help.
For some reason or another, when using a WPA2 Security setting my droid would scan, connect and disconnect continuosly. The cure was changing my Security over to the WEP Encryption instead.
Once I changed to this setting, I've had absolutely no issues connecting to my router. Give this a try and let me know how it goes.

Humor me for a minute, try setting your router up with the WEP Encryption. If applicable, select the WEP (128bit) 13 Character Encryption key. (make sure password is set to exactly 13 characters, I believe you need numerical characters as well)
Meanwhile, download Wifi Manager by Kostya Vasilyev onto your DX and get it installed and fully set up. It has a widget you can use on homescreen.

Once you have these two steps completed, I recommend rebooting your DX. After power up, try connecting via Wifi Manager (the one you downloaded) to your router.
These are the exact steps I took in solving my router connectivity issue.
Also, may I ask... What type of router do you use? Is it running on 802.11g or n? How far away are you from the access point?

What kind of Router are you using? Another great way to troubleshoot would be setting your Wifi up without a password (open network) and try and connect your Droid that way.
See if that works, if so...we can go from there!

This is the best thing to try going forward. Disable all security briefly and see if that works. Just don't forget to set it back when you're done.
One other small thing that might be a factor. If he didn't setup his router himself, it's possible that mac address filtering is enabled. I know I personally have setup a ton of wireless routers for friends and family. Of course I don't enable mac address filtering anywhere except on my own router but it's possible if someone else set it up they enabled it by accident.
