Hi.

Use this - X10Root.1.0.8.apk - instead, download, transfer to your sd card, find it with a file manager like Astro, install, run, root, done. :)

Hey,
I'm really new to this.
My bf and I both have the x10a, and I recently updated my phone from 1.6 to 2.1. (big mistake, imho... it's like having to get used to a brand new phone)
He keeps mentioning "rooting". Everyone says to be wary of it, because if you don't know how - you will mess up your phone.
I would really like to know more about rooting. We have the files on both phones (universal androot.apk) but I want to know if it is worth it. Since I just lost all my apps when I was updating from 1.6 to 2.1, I would be trying it on my phone first.
What are the benefits? What are the risks? And, what exactly does it do? (will my service provider know, how will it effect data usage, etc...)

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!!

If you want to root go on the market and search for Z4root and root from your phone without a pc.

The only thing good about rooting in my opinon is to be able to use full ui themes such as X10iusers Res theme.

You can also tether your phones internet to a pc or produce a wifi hotspot from your using something like Barnacle.

It is possible to brick your phone but that would be the result of using root software that doesn't support your phone. I did it but I can do a great deal more than before other than wireless tethering.
