New HTC Hero issues

Ooops... no... spoke too soon. Another reboot and allowing it time to resync the contacts seems to have rectified things!

Some jiggery-pokery in the background perhaps? I'm guessing the HTC won't update its own software without a prompt...

Could'nt have been your carrier?
BTW are you all in the States?
I ask because in little frigid Denmark I never heard anybody complaining of this bug.

UK based, but on different carriers. I'm on Orange, a couple of others are on Vodafone. Seems to have been moderately common, but not universal.

Just for confirmation, do you all sync with an Exchange account as well as a Google account?

I'm now working fine with just Exchange, Facebook and Twitter logged in, the problem only arises when set the device to sync with my Google account also.

As previously suggested I just checked through my contacts and cannot see any untoward data in fields that it shouldn't be so cannot see this as being the issue.

I'm in the UK and T-Mobile.

Thanks

I don't use Exchange.

Try a reboot, then leave your phone alone to background sync for a while. After turning it off and on, go to Settings | Data Synchronization | Google and then tap Contacts off and then on again. That will force a download. Then don't touch it for about half an hour or something - that gives it time to refresh all the contact data and, in my case at least, to have fixed the error.

Denmark based:
no probs syncing ,getting push e-mails, and updating in real time with Gmail, Gdocs, Gcalendar, Gmaps, or any Google service, via WIFI (home and office routers and hotspots) and cellular broadband, which is also the main reason I bought an Android device.
I think it's unexcusable that you should have problems to make Android playing nice with Google services.
What does your carrier say about it? Is there other people complaining of the same thing?
I, for exemple, could not receive MMS, until I complained to my carrier that strangely (as I discovered) did'nt enable this function by default.
Now the problem is gone.

Ok I have heard back from HTC regarding this issue. Their advice is to hard reset the phone and to see if that fixes the issue. If it does not then they stated that a new firmware is out soon and that it MAY fix the issue.
I have not tried a hard reserved myself yet and I might just wait till the firmware update.
I have been thinking of the issue and was wondering if it has anything to do with Facebook's username's? As I have not yet set one up, have any of you having this issue configured your Facebook username yet?

Hello excuse my english but i'm french
I would like to contribute to this thread because i had the same problem with contacts and android.process.acore as many of you.

I solved the problem by syncing the Hero with the PC using HTC sync, i coultn't sync before because i'm on windows 7 but after having the driver issue fixed (Workaround for HTC Hero Sync Problem in Windows 7 My Digital Life) and the sync completed, all the contacts' pictures reappeared and the process issue does bug me anymore.

Hope it would help

haha, htc' advise is always to hardreset and see if that helps... :)

Hi

To my surprise everything is working today without having done anything. Tried factory reset yesterday reseting cach sd card, but nothing. Suddenly todat it's working.

Located in Sweden Teliasonera operator...

Good luck rest of you

Well a full day of operation with Exchange, Facebook and Twitter and neither 'client/server conversion' error or the app error has occured.

Going to re-add the google sync and see what happens.

Will post back later.

I managed to sort it by following Trouf's advice. Sync'd the phone with outlook and I can now see my contact card.

The odd thing however is sod all was actually sync'd up, which is very strange.......

HTC told me to hard reset (!) and, if that didn't work, to wait for the firmware update due mid-September. From the leaked reports, it seems that this update will fix a lot of bugs, and speed up the lag issues...

If you can bear to wait to weeks, I'm sure the issues will be resolved. It's clear a number of people have reported these issues to HTC, so I'm sure their engineers are aware of them.

i also had a replie from htc.
the first one just was the same as @buttletux's

but then i asked them to clarify the issue, and this is what i got:
We haven't localized the exact problem as of yet. When I hear something new I can send you an e-mail if you wish.
but regadless this issue, cant wait for the rom update... :D

yesterday i got the same problem. by the way, is there someone who can provides some help?? thanks.

I have just downloaded and installed the new Hero ROM update from MoDaco which installed fine and found that the phone is much quicker, HOWEVER I too now have the issue with the sync with Facebook giving me the 'force close' error. I have tried reinstalling the ROM and it made no change. Does anyone have a definative resalution for this problem???

I think it basically goes away on its own... seriously. Don't mess about with it, just wait a day or so. Time seems to have healed everyone else who had this problem! It seems to be some particular glitch in the Facebook sync that affects people periodically - but it eventually resolves itself.

I have the Modaco ROM installed too and it's working perfectly - it even fixed my headphone-detection problem! You're probably better off posting techical questions about it on the Modaco forums, though - there seem to be more knowledgeable posters there than here.

I installed the new update, and got the error AFTER the install..

I have fixed the issue today, by UN-checking the Gmail Contacts sync.

Just thought I should let u guys know..

people chill out, let your phone do its thing, n you will stop gettin the error. i got it about 5 times after update (2 days ago) and i havnt seen it since.

I got this issue cured by going to application management & stopping my Google services & clearing all data & Force closing the Keyboard I also uninstalled my Google Talk before doing this as that was stuck trying to log in This fixed the issue for me hope it might help some of you or anyone else who arrives here via a search engine

(Also how many of you have Dolphin HD on your phones / tabs )

I got to this thread via a search of google i had this issue on my Flytouch 3 Superpad 3 (2.2) & there seems to be a lot of people with all types of android units with this issue..
