Hey all! For some reason, I made an account on here a while ago and never posted. But now I am getting the Inspire and wanted to know some things and hopefully you can help:

I am only getting the 200 MB plan because A: I can only really afford that as I am a student. B: I don't think I will use more than that.

These questions really refer to the data usage of the phone so I know how to monitor it better:

So, let's say I have the main weather widget/clock updating itself every couple of hours or maybe even just daily. What kind of data usage would that be, ie. in KB?

With the aGPS, does that suck up data?

I'm really only using the data for Twitter and such, maybe some other news widgets with headlines. If I left the Twitter widget updating itself, do you think that would use a lot of data?

What is the best texting app? I don't want to pay for texting, so I figured Google Voice would work great, but I don't know if that uses a lot of data as well.

For the most part, I used the AT&T Data calculator on their site and figured out that 200 MB seems ok. I have Wifi at most places I go so that would work.

Thanks for your time and the ridiculously stupid questions, I'm new to smartphones.

The inspire is a DATA HOG! I moderately use the internet but background apps use a lot. Get the minimum texting plan. Google voice will cause you to go in debt at your income. I recommend turning off background data and not using gps our any widgets such as weather, news, etc. Set the update time to as long as possible.

I have the 200MB too, and I generally keep my data off, only turning it on when I need to. That way I use as little data as possible, and it saves on battery life. I only use the data to check-in on foursquare, update Twitter(Tweetdeck), and check scores on the ESPN app when I'm not near wi-fi. Keeping to apps generally keeps the data usage lower than webpages, too.

Really? And yes, I would turn off background apps on it. I'm surprised you say that when AT&T says otherwise.

That is what I would do. I have Wifi most places I go, especially at home. And how does that work for you? What is your avg. data usage per month using this method?

I have a question here 2. Its been 2 weeks since I got my inspire. I use it unlocked on another company different from AT&T. If I root it, would I be able to use the Wifi hotspot?

Anyway, does anyone know where I could pick up the phone for free with a new contract rather than paying $99.99? I've seen some people posting that they have gotten lucky, but I'm not too sure where to check.

My average data usage is maybe 50MB/month. And that may be overestimating. This month I've only used 15Mb so far, and my billing period ends on the 6th.

Maybe best buy, costco, amazon would be good places to check. Radio Shack has had it for $30 every now and then.

I'm use wifi when I'm d/ling anything. I have the 2Gb plan so I don't worry about usage too much. However, I'll monitor my data usage and let you know. Next Billing Cycle 10/13
