Root new kernel with stock rom

would it do any good, be productive, if i flash a new kernel but keep stock rom? i'm looking to tweak my cpu more along with DL speeds and seem limited with stock kernel. would this give me any more flexability or should i flash both a new rom and kernel? any suggestions? specific kernel?
TIA

I'm still on the stock ROM but I recently flashed netarchy 4.3.1-cfs-havs-nosbc. Can't comment on tweaking DL speeds, haven't tried, but with this kernel you can overclock your CPU if you wish (you can't with stock kernel).

Yeah, you can stick with the stock ROM and use a custom kernel. If you want the *full* benefit of rooting, you might consider flashing a custom ROM at some point. But there's nothing wrong with starting out with a new kernel. Like cajunman4life said, don't expect better dl speeds out it, though. If there's something wrong with that, take a look at this thread.
