Root new koumamod.apk

RTLflat

Android Enthusiast
until kouma gets walk-through for his apk for kouma kernel together folks can check this out. lots of people been having questions bout setup or haven't noticed that ctmod 3.68 doesn't include the newest version of koumamod.apk

this is just the way that I do it successfully for my setup and I have walked several people through this with no problems.

this means your phone will probably blow up following this tutorial so be prepared to blame yourself and Osama bin ladin.
this has not been reviewed by kouma.

koumamod.apk 1.7 [/URL]
use chrome in desktop mode to prevent download issues.

kouma says you can just install as user app. like I said this is my method that works. also this makes it system app so won't be deleted if data wiped. and I like being difficult but this isn't difficult so it cancels itself out and becomes easy.

1. flash ctmod 3.68 (if you already up and running skip this step)

if you just flashed ROM click save on SSM or data w/e you want to get superuser permissions. reboot recovery wipe data/dalvik reboot. flash the formatter zip.boot.

2. in root file manager of choice mount system as r/w

3. navigate to /system/app and delete koumamod.apk

4. navigate to /sdcard/chrome/Downloads/ (or wherever that file you downloaded went)

copy and paste in /system/app

5. long click the apk and click permissions
change to
rw-r-r
should match every thing else in that folder

6. reboot recovery and wipe dalvik if on data/flash format dalvik zip for SSM users. boot

7. go to app drawer and click on motorcycle (koumamod... duh)
click save on /data if /data or SSM if SSM and accept SU.

8. if you want swap click swap tab. long click first long very bar. navigate to where you want swap file and click <current directory> at top
example:
I'm on SSM
I mkdir /data/swap
and long clicked bar...
clicked data
clicked swap
clicked current directory
choose 32mb
made priority 100
clicked save

9. optional... additional swap file. repeat steps in different location.
I put my second in /data/app cuz that's my huge ext partition. 100mb.

so when my 32mb file on internal partition with data is filled it overflows to big swapfile on class 10 partition with apps. remember click save after each file is made.

10. reboot

I've never had a problem doing this method but that's cuz my prevail is better than yours. if your phone break clearly your should've asked kouma

any questions welcome

in case I'm not on forum when you got question

this will be updated/corrected as needed or replaced if kouma makes better or just likes answering same questions Hella times every time someone asks

thanks button is bottom right btw. and then don't forget it's located in same place on kouma posts too

Ummm, you should be able to just install the newer version over the old without having to delete it.

Just put the newer version on your sdcard, turn on Unknown sources, browse to the apk with your file browser, pick the apk, select package installer if asked, click ok to replace application, click install.

should be as easy as that.

if for some reason it doesn't, it means that the signature on the apk has been changed, which shouldn't happen unless someone resigned it.

I should probably get around to making a user manual of sorts

earlier versions wouldn't install for me. with and without removing old one first. I just put in system app. few other people had problems too and I had them do this way. also if wipe data but wanna keep system you won't lose it. I'll make edit and say if install fail drag there. I'll leave this up as reference if anybody wanna follow. this just method I use and it works for me so that what I put

other than that everything look cool though? I was just trying to get temporary place for questions and guidance so blood thread don't become a koumamod faq. I guess no body reads OPs and assume
a. koumamod is made by blood (which it is)
b. ctmod or kernel give them updated apk (which they do)

bet you folks still won't read OPs and be confused haha

funny, you would think that since my nick is in the name, you would know who made it.
CTmod is made by Bloodawn, which comes with koumamod.

Koumamod only works with koumakernel

Koumakernel works with stock based ext4 roms, like CTmod and HAR

hey man you wanna get high? try these kouma kernels. you be swapped out of your mind. warped to another partition

I did resign the apk with the signature I use for system apps. I had to do it after adding some theme shit to manifest.

I didn't know people would try to install your updates to data, I just figured they would replace the old apk.

Ahhh, That makes sense then.
Well, once upgraded once, the signatures will match from then on out, so it's not an issue either way, good to know what's going on though.

In the CTMod 3.6 zip file can I delete the KoumaMod.apk in system/app and put the newer Koumamod1_5.apk in place of it and then just close that zip up (if using 7-zip) and then just use that newer version of CTMod3.6 I just updated?

If you wanted to start fresh like that, yeah.

If you're already all dialed in the way you like, there's no real reason to wipe your phone just to update one app

What is the point of swapping and SSM? I get the "data" option because I see the change in my internal memory.

But, when I follow the directions of RTLflat when I reboot my phone it says I have 15.4 Mb internal memory.

I want to use SSM but for my swap i want the internal memory increased.

I am confused.

And why can't Blooddawn talk with Koumasaki to update ct mod 3.6 with the new apk so we don't have to reinstall everytime. Or make it setup that the internal apps use internal memory and any other apps installed after the installation of the Rom would automatically go to an alternative "internal" memory. And dalvik cache automatically moved with the script in the Rom.

I am only saying if you step back and look everyone has a different explanation of how to use Kouma mod, partitions, etc...

Please someone in black and white tell me how to use SSM (phone is faster than using "data" in the Kouma apk menu.) and still be able to have more internal memory. Also please explain the "Use swap for SSM check box that pops up after you install the new kouma apk.

pretty Please with beer caps on top

you must be doing something wrong because after ssm if done right should have like 150 free. it also puts the delvik on sd instead of internal.

i'm sorry about the swap, i don't use it so i don't really know much about it. as for the ssm you need to patition right for it to work. and it does put all apps on sd which is fooled to be internal. and delvick is on sd too.

do you check the box that pops up under SSM in kouma apk?

also do you flash sd to ex4 then later SSM dalvik cache zips?

Edit: also when I try to swap anything other than what you said it does the force close vibration and locks up at teh fading CT mod screen

if you go to the sticky at top of page, the guide ctmod one, it explains how to partition sd card and set up by me in the last post.

i am playing with matches,

earlier i selected the entire internal memory directory and tried the swap and its a no go. I don't understand what swap is completely and what am I swapping???

yes on checking ssm box and if set up right it will take care of everything else.

ok yes if partitoned right, reflash ctmod and it defaults to ssm. you should see 150 mb free or so. if not then something is wrong, usually is the partitions. you need that right first before worrying about swap.
