Help New Laptop, Help with USB?

I just got my new laptop for college, and I was hoping someone would walk me through the process of installing the USB drivers the correct way. I'm on the latest cm7.
Thanks!

If all ur trying to do is access storage, and the laptop has something like windows 7 I think is should load what you need automatically like a plug and play device

Okay, that worked just fine. Thanks for the help. Now what about if I ever want to use adb?

For me personally with using windows 7, and already having cm7 installed I kept getting errors, the best and easiest way I found personally was restoring my stock, plugging in the USB on stock and letting all drivers load off windows 7, then restoring my cm7 and plugging that in and letting all the drivers to load

Although I could have just been getting a strange error, that that happened to fix lol

Ok, I guess I'll try, and then if it doesn't work right, I'll go through the whole long process... Thanks!

If your Laptop is brand new, it will need the "sync" drivers from Motorola.
Go to their website, and download the authorized drivers (even if you're running CM7)
from the support portion of the site. (the ones just for the Triumph) Once you have those
installed you are good to go. Your Moto with CM7 can actually "see" your laptop and wants to sync to it all ready. Windows doesn't see your Moto yet. It has to have the stock usb drivers to read the MT. The error messages you're getting are really due to a problem with Windows not your phone or CM7. Windows doesn't recognize custom roms, just stock usb connected devices. I'm still relatively new to smartphones, but I am an IT for Windows PC's. I got your back on this. Also, ANY device you install drivers for may ask if your PC is 64 bit (x64) or 32 bit (x86) and you will need to know before you go downloading anything. Your Control Panel>System should tell you all you need to know.

Another helpful tip with new Windows PC's is..most of the general public do not know that they aren't ready to go out of the box! You have to UNPACK the operating system to get the full benefit of all the features. (a beef that Steve Jobs had about Windows PC for EVER)
Go to the Control Panel>Programs >Turn Windows Features On & Off. Click that link. that will open up a listing. (it will take time to build) you will see a WHOLE lot of features that are not turned on in your OS. Expand that window and start checking all the boxes except HTTP re-direct. Be careful with that one. That allows your browser to be re-directed to a website that may/may not be the one you are looking for. You could be re-directed to false, clone sites easily. Your security program will work better if you leave this one alone. Once you have the boxes checked, click OK at the bottom and your laptop will start making all the changes. This process will take time. Once it runs and your back to "normal operation" , you want to close anything you got going on, and restart the PC. This will save the settings you just changed. After reboot, you will see an improvement in performance. Your system tools will ALL work now! Have fun with your new PC, and enjoy your Moto!

im in no way an expert but that is what i figured the issue was, of course, i have a fairly good background knowledge of pc's, but to me what it seemed like it did was, on stock loaded all the proper drivers needed, usb and such, then plugging it in with cm7 installed it looked like it simply updated those said drivers, the best part of the whole thing is once you get it set-up your done, well with playing with drivers atleast lol

I remember my old man's first android phone, the Samsung Intercept. What a Junker! it wouldn't tether for anything! I had the drivers installed, running Windows 7 32 bit and still no USB connection. JUNK!! It was a Windows thing. The Intercept, even with a custom rom, was a Windows XP kinda device. I wasn't about to uninstall Windows 7. Sometimes it's
just an incompatibility issue. I wonder how bad Windows 8 is going to be on syncing & driver issues. Bill Gates' stuff is good, but not always perfect.

i had issues with my V and truimph where it would not always see the device in win 7 or everytime i connected it it would want to install the drivers, since switching to the HTC rezound never had any issues the HTC sync also works perfect,so i would not be quick to blame win 7.
