New member with Android tablet problem

Lurker
I just purchased a cheap 10" tablet/notebook and I am unable to connect with the internet using wi fi and my 2Wire router-modem. I am able to connect using the eithernet cable from the tablet to the router, but cannot connect using wi fi. We have 2 other computers (laptops) and both are connected to wi fi and show up in the Att&T home network section of the summary page. I took the new tablet to Starbucks and to our local hospital and was able to automatically connect to their wi fi with no problems. I have re-booted the router and restarted my computer without any luck. My eyes are red from trying to see if I could find the answer on the net. The manufacturer is in China and so there is no support there. My gut tells me it is a simple problem of entering the correct MAC address; password; security designation (WEP or WPA2 or WPA2 PSK - all greek to me), etc. I hope that someone in this forum will be able to walk me thru how I might solve this problem. My wife is going into the hospital for an operation in a few days and I bought this device for her to use. Thank you all in advance for any help you can offer. Kennyg100:smokingsomb:

Hi there, welcome to the forums!!

First, I'm moving this to our General Tablet Talk forum so that perhaps someone there can better assist you

Second, did you check to ensure wifi is turned on on the device?

Does the tablet support WPA/WPA2 security, WPS (or just WEP)? It may be that the tablet doesn't support the security you're using.
Can you connect with WiFi security turned off? Don't keep it off, just to see if the tablet will connect if your WiFi is open.
If that works, can you connect using WEP?
If you can connect using WEP, try using WPA/PSK (Pre-Shared Key.)
Finally (if Available on the tablet) try connecting using WPA2/PSK security.

I suspect that the Tablet doesn't support the security that your router (and laptops) use.

Using the wired connection, install a WiFi analyzer app like this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.farproc.wifi.analyzer&hl=en
It will show if your WiFi is in a crowded band, you can then switch your router to a less crowded one. That may help.
