Help New Note 2, best phone ever, couple of issues

Hi all, I have bitten the bullet, cancelled my contract on my Xperia 's' and purchased a galaxy note 2.

first impressions, its amazing.
screen is great athough not as crisp as the sony, but i will be using it as a phone not a tv. The speed of the processor is great, no screen freezes or glitchy app opening. S pen is responsive and a great feature. Reminds me of a new version of my p900i. but much better obviously!

The only issues I am faced with at the moment is

1. notifications. I am using the standard messaging app which i have set to show a notification. when i receive a new text, the messaging icon on my screen shows a number '1' in the corner. when i open the text, the number 1 still remains. how can i set ths to go away.

2. the pull down notification screen populates its self. all i want in this screen is the notifications i choose. not the music player, apps it thinks i might want to use, slide bars for running apps such as go power master.
Can i restrict what appears in this screen or is it set?

3. random chat invites. I keep getting random chat invites from people i have never heard of. i dont use chat so no idea how that is happening. how can i stop these random invites?

thats about it for the moment. everything else seems sweeeet!

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Ridethesplit. It sounds to me like issues 1 and 2 can be resolved by experimenting with different 3rd party launchers from Play Store, or by replacing the stock notifications with a chosen app from there.

#3 is likely happening as a result of the inclusion (by default) of what social networking widgets/apps you have enabled (by default, ;)). Have a look at Facebook, Google+ etc and make a tweak here and there and you can eliminate the chat invites, etc. :)

thanks.
i am not on facebook and i have deleted my google+ account today to stop it.
I will try a different launcher but this made my xperia really clunky so i was going to stick with the factory one for a bit.

do you know of any good free launchers?

Nova is the best. There's free, but paid is definitely worth it. It will run smooth, did on my Note 1.

That being said, with my Note 2 I no longer use it. It's the best in terms of functionality. But I have to admit, though it's still limited and clunky in places, Touchwizz is very pretty these days, and on this phone it is smooth as silk also. Therefore (rather unusually for me) I'm going for form over function with this one.

my favourite looking launcher was
ss launcher, but was so clunky on my xperia.
nova was ok but very similar to stock.
might give ss another go

Assuming you have upgraded to 4.1.2, there is another option for removing notifications for any app you don't want. Go into Settings, Applications and then choose that specific app that you don't want to see notifications from. Right under the Force Stop button, there is a check box for Show notifications. Remove the check. Do this for each app. This might have been there in 4.1.1, but I don't recall seeing it until I upgraded to 4.1.2.

Thank you for this; it is in 4.1.1 but likewise, I had not noticed it either.
