New Note owner - a few questions

I have NIB AT&T Note coming next Wednesday and I have a few questions.

1. The ebay seller I bought it from says it's running GB. Can I upgrade to ICS instead of JB?

2. If all I want the phone to do is voice, txt, email, FB, Twitter (Plume) and TWC app should I just leave GB on it?

I have brand new Nexus 7 that I use for everything else. I want the Note to do just the basics, be stable & have good batt life. Most of what I've read about JB on the Note and some of what I've read about ICS on the note have been very negative.

I just want the phone to do the basics and do them well. Suggestions?

Gingerbread will work for what you want. Odds are you will get the update automatically. You may want to get the update. There are known problems with the GN that cannot be fixed under Gingerbread. Just look up "Voice Talk" for example. It will drive you banannas. It comes stock on the GN, and cannot be turned off unless you get an update to ICS or root your phone.

There are other issues, but only if you have te rev A board.

You do know that your phone is locked to AT&T? It may have AT&T spectific apps on it. That is why I recommend not buying a phone from the USA. The service providers in the USA like to keep control.

Not sure. AT&T has a reputation. I would do a google search and find out. Everything you want to know about what to remove can be found onXDA developers fourum.

Trust me you want voice talk off your phone. It is not about the space it takes up, it will pop up unexpectedly. Also if you like pandora, it may pop up while you are listening to music. It is funny when it thinks the song lyrics are your voice.

Do a search for "voice talk a must have not", or something like that, and read the blogs on the vlingo web site.

I forgot to say that I saw no difference between ICS and JB.
