Sorry, not fully understanding what you are asking for. Are you clicking on a file and want it to ask you what to do with it? Or are you completely not getting this (ie. Clicking on a file doesn't do anything)?

I think I have the same issue. say you go to astro file manager and see a music file, you click on it and it asks if you want to open with the stock music player or something else.. you click on the app you want and then it asks, 'always' or never or soemthing like that. then is says to stop this go to settings,... and so on but I cant figure out how to stop getting it to ask me that.

If you select always, it shouldn't be asking you that. It's unless you are associating a new file to a certain program. You don't reset the app preferences unless you made a mistake with the program selection or change your mind.
