New Optimus V tips

I'm new to the Optimus V and Android in general, so I wondered if you guys could give me a few tips. Are there any things I should do right away to optimize my phone? I've heard getting JuiceDefender is crucial to extending the battery life. What is the best web browser to use?

Thanks!

New to Android in general...the most important tip i can give is to start using Gmail for contacts and Google Calendar. Both instantly sync with your phone (and of course that means you have backups of contacts and calendar too, should your phone lose them or you get a different Droid down the line).

I didn't use either one much before I got my first Droid, now I can't live without either one.

Also, I'm very fond of AppBrain for managing apps, moving to SD, finding new ones, blocking updates, etc.

Juicedefender is not crucial in any way,and in some cases can give you unneeded issues, yes the battery life is not that great, but researching an android phone you should know this before buying, any browser will work it comes down to preference, for speed opera mini, dolphin, and the stock browser are the best.i like miran and skyfire, though they are not that fast.

Opera Mini - least permissions & saves web pages but on the phone instead of SD. You could use an app like save this page to "fix" that option
Explorer - to see & manage your SD contents
Antivirus or Lookout - scans in real time & locate phone if lost (US)
Privacy Guard - lock out sections of your phone so people can't call out or access apps unless they know the PIN

I agree using Gmail for contacts, and Google calendar. The contacts can be done on the computer, if you wish. I also use Google Voice on the computer, which keeps my contacts up to date for my phone, now.

i have an lg optimus v. came from an iphone, ive owned five iphones two blackberrys and about 20 other phones. this is the first phone i actually take care of. ive only dropped it once.
my setup is as follows:
VM670
running 2.3.3 Gingerbread
Overclocked to 824mhz(can go to 846 but reboots after a bit)
custom rom and recovery.
i have movetosd enabler so i have about 30 games and around 15 apps and still have 140ish of 170somthing mbs left
i use applanet to get all apps free
IMO Gingerbread is alot better the froyo. and this device overclocked is a beast for the price!
i wish it had a front facing camera and led a flash for camera and adobe should get off there ass and write a new version of flash for the cm6 chips or whatever it is bc it can deff handle it!!
i also have 2 backup batteries lol

What do you want a medal, this advice i would not give a user who wants everything on the pone to work Bluetooth and sms,as these custom roms tend to disable, and as for overclocking a phone that is now 200 dollars i do not advice, unless you want a paperweight or don't mind spending another 200 dollars,or are you the type who tries to return it.

if you actually kept up with the custom roms you would know that there are ALOT of FULLY working roms for the optimus v. this is my second rom and ive never had an issue with this phone. and overclocking.. its called you have to know what your doing and just do it. ive had mine overclocked for about two months with no issues at all. my gaming desktop processor and graphocs card are overclocked and have been for about 4 years. i like getting the most out of my stuff. and yes a metal would be nice! haha
and my current rom. EVERYTHING works. if you want i can give you the link to it

big difference between a desktop cpu and a mobile, next you will say you get 2 days out of the battery, yeah let me see it cause most roms for the V disable at least something, and i do not care if you think you know what your doing you are creating heat and excess volts when overclocking a mobile cpu,it basically is a ticking time bomb,to advice a new user to do any of this is not a good idea.

Lou. Ur looking real ignant rite now dude. Aosps 2.3.3 cyanogen mod7 has bluetooth working. Use it every day on my car stereo. Has mms woking SMS working and omfg lol lol u can frigging get about a day nd half on battery wit his rom. Just use power widget to stop mobile data(internet) when ur not using it. I swear battery drains like 2% an hour. I know ur just trying to help but know what ur speaking on first

Yeah right with an overclocked CPU a day and half battery life BS.

thats my man right there^!! everyday i do something different to my phone.
and to you guy, a processor is the same weather in a phone or a computer. does all the same stuff. i am well aware of the heat of overclocking, i used to run my old gaming laptop at 190 degrees while playing black ops. i like to push my hardware. if it dies i will get another phone, ive had FIVE iphones. getting a new one isnot an issue. and the rom me and bdg have... well let me spell it out for you... E..V..E..R..Y..T..H..I..M..G.. W..O..R..K..S..
and this rom is good on battery. but there is a reason i have THREE batteries. its not to fill my pocket with un needed crap its to keep my phone on as long as possible.

ohh and when the data is off that does save ALOT of battery, why dont you go ahead and try it tomorrow, theres a reason i got three batteries. bc the battery sucks and overclocking drains it but its not as bad as yyou think

Lou... Lou
. Lou... don't knock it before u. Rock it
Again know what u speaking on first. The way u Oc thru set CPU or internal cm7 srttings is min and Max. U can say min of 245mhz and Max of 810 .when it needs it will say use 810
But if its idle it will use the 245mhz setting. Booyah

you are my idols,i am glad to see you have so much to throw away on trashed hardware, most budget consumers would differ, but to each his own,or do you still live in mommies basement keeping bills low.

well seems how im still in high school. i work 40 hours a week and go to school 35 i think im handling myself pretty well at 18 there buddy. ive bough all my phones. and im not going to ruin this one, im not forcing it to run constantly at 824 im just allowing it to go that high. so chill your jets and try not to read a book by its cover.
and another thing, my moms about to die. she has cancer. so watch what you say about my mother.

I figured by your posts you where still a kid,i have no parents, both died many years ago live in a house by myself, maybe someday your attitude will change how you delegate your money, but the original post was tips on to optimize their phone, you come in here talking about doing all this moding to the phone, when maybe they have no interest in voiding the warranty and potently damaging their phone, thats not help.but i don't blame you you still have a lot to learn about the real world.
