Root New OTA 2.3.15 update anybody got it

My update install failed. Im in need of
some help. I was rooted and the install of the new update failed so I unrooted and factory reset my
DX. The super user icon is still present and update is failing. I am a newbie at this stuff in need of assistance.

Lost my root going from 2.1 to 2.3.15 OTA. Any method of rooting v2.3.15 on Droid x that works yet? Tested easyroot app. It says phone is still rooted but none of my root apps have su access. Tried removing one manual in superuser app to see if the app would popup the superuser permission... and nope it doesn't. Was trying it with better terminal. Addfree as well and root explorer. No luck. Any word if the old root method still works for ota v2.3.15?

Im interested in this too, I have 2.1 rooted and 5 bloatwares renamed BAK
can I move the x bin and put the Apk extension back on the bloatwares?
will this allow SU permissions?

Hello,
I've successfully (finally) rooted and updated from SBF 2.1.1 to 2.2 to 2.3.15 (TBH version before OTA release) .
When I go into, settings | about | the system version says:
2.3.13.MB 810.Version.en.US

Is this right or did I do something wrong?

Does it make a difference that I did not first install 2.3.13 before 2.3.15?

Thanks

1) don't get the OTA, because it will just make you need to roll back the bootloader later. If you go OTA, you will not be able to SBF since the OTA locks us back out of the bootloader.

2a) To update to tranquility version of 2.3.15 (TBH) first upgrade to 2.3.9 via Rom manager (sounds like you know how to do this)

2b) Make a nandroid backup using the Rom Manager (so that you can roll back)

3) then get this nandroid and unzip it into the clockwork folder\backup
http://androidforums.com/droid-x-al...t-you-can-get-2-3-15-w-o-ota.html#post1654825

4)Then reboot recovery, then go to backup and restore, then advanced, then do a system restore only so you won't have to mess with your apps and settings.

5) replace your old widgets on the homescreen and enjoy 2.3.15

2. OK so I go into Rom Manager or TBM app?
If Rom Manager in Download Rom | Stock Images | it says Verizon Droidx 2.2 you must have 2.1 INSTALLED.
Is that what you mean i'm on 2.3.13 (yest I installed 2.3.15 (TBH before OTA was available)?

4. When you say reboot into recovery which method do you mean?
Rom Manager, Bootstrap, power volume home, then search?

5. Will all my apps still be in-tacked or will I need to re-install?

OH will I need to move the su to xbox before or am I still good in respect to root?
THANKS

I think that perhaps if you rooted while on 2.1 via Universal Androot, you will still lose root when you upgrade. I have a feeling that just having a copy of su in /xbin/ won't work. It seems that you need to only have su in /xbin/ and not one in /bin/. Those that say they simply moved their su file to /xbin/ seem to have kept root after upgrading, where those that had a copy due to rooting via Androot lost it. I rooted via Universal Androot and manually checked my /xbin/ and /bin/ folders to make sure I had an su file in both locations. I upgraded to the OTA 2.3.15 update and lost root. I ended up having to use the D2 rooting method.

If you have 2.3.13, then the easiest way is to dowload the 2.3.15 tranquility nandroid build I linked you to. Then from the Droid-X Bootstrapper, select Bootsrap Recovery, then Reboot Recovery. I think this can also be done from the rom manager. In either case then go to backup and restore, then advanced, then do a system restore only so you won't have to mess with your apps and settings.

You should retain your apps, however, before I upgrade I always backup my apps with Titanium Backup, and do a nandroid backup. Also, since you have 2.3.13 from the home screen-Menu-> Preferences Backup Homescreens and settings (Not sure if this is launcher pro specific).

Just make sure when you do the update you only "restore" System. This SHOULD allow you to keep all your apps and settings. If not, well you have a nandroid backup right? You should also keep root, and now be enjoying a deodexed, version of 2.3.15 without all the extra crap added like blockbuster and amazon mp3 etc.

Only thing I have noticed is I now have 2 terminal emulators, should be easy to remove one though but I haven't bothered yet. I also came from 2.3.13 :)

This is not directions to get the Actual OTA update, so it sounds like you might already have 2.3.15. If you want OTA my suggestion right now is to not bother with it.

Well i downloaded the 2.3.15.zip and placed it on the root of the SDCard.
Booted into ClockworkMod via Bootstraps.
Chose Restore and Backup and it said it didn't find any file.
I then went to advanced but there was no system restore as described above.

So I chose install zip from SDCard, but when I chose the 2.3.15.zip file it said Installing update...
But just sat at that point for over 5 minutes so I have to assume its did nothing.

Any advice?

Thanks

Installing an entire system update isn't instant. Give it time to do its thing and be patient.

If you mean that for me it was over 5 minutes and the scroll or status bar hadn't stared to fill in.

There was no progress not even 1%.
i am currently on 2.3.13 so isn't this just a update?

Thanks

Well I downloaded 2.31.15 from TBH app and went into recovery via bootstrap.
I was able to install 9or what I thought) 2.3.15, but when the device rebooted it was still saying 2.3.13 in the settings | About | version.

Whats going on???

This worked perfectly, very easy. One piece of caution, this will delete bloatware including Backup Assistant. If you use backup assistant to keep your contacts i would make sure that you move your contacts to gmail before doing this update.

I had to go onto the vzw site and export my contacts to gmail via a .csv file because after the update I lost all of my phone numbers since Backup Assistant was no longer on my phone.

Just wanted to let everyone know incase it happens to you.

just FYI, don't EVER do something if it is not in the directions. You could brick your phone! Of course you can still SBF but I don't think you want to. I hope this didn't overwrite your apps and data! The Advanced System Restore is the way to avoid re-installing apps and configurations etc.

You need to extract the zip file to the clockworkmod\backup folder before you attempt to install it (A directory with all the files in it should be created under the backup folder). Use the volume buttons to navigate / camera button to select the directory with the nandroid you want to install (you have to select the new directory with the the 2.3.15 nandroid).

As far as backing up contacts, YES! use google, I guess tranquility gets rid of backup assistant. However all your contacts should still be there if you do the advanced system restore. However if your coming from 2.1, they will be lost. Sorry you had get them from the verizon site the painful way.

I'm still new, but just trying to share what I learned with others, but I certainly should have included this. It's part of tranquility's bloat removal.

I have been running the 2.2 leak since the day it came out but never got the .13 or .15 leak as my phone was running great until the past couple days. Yesterday I decided to do this .15 update and it was super easy with those instructions. After I did the update I went out with my wife only to find out that all my phone number contacts weren't there so while at a friends house with my wife I decided to go into VZW's website and do the .csv transfer as i knew it would work. I looked online to try to get the backup assistant back but couldnt find the right answer so I knew my way would work. I just wanted to let everyone know incase they got stuck the same way I did.

I dont post here much unless I have found a way to help others. There is alot of good information on this site and I read alot :)

Interesting, I did not lose my contacts, just had to reload my widgets, but I came from 2.3.13, although I did not think it would be any different from 2.3.9. Did you do a data wipe or reset? Cause that would certainly remove them. Well there you have it! Always do a nandroid backup with rom manager just in case :) I'm glad you were able to get your contacts back fairly painlessly.

I did a backup of everything, both titanium backup and nandroid backup. I just did a system restore with the new unzipped files in the clockworks backup folder. I know i could have restored a backup but the way i did it was pretty painless.
