I just got a notification from HTC for an OTA. Anyone know what it is? Anyway I can see what it is before I download it or delete it.

Sprint Releasing HTC EVO Shift 4G OTA Update August 8th
If you are rooted, I don't know that this will do any good unless you are on your original rom.

I dug a little deeper and the OTA is a maintenance update for easier email login and HSUPA.

I refused the update.
Im just spitballing here but I would think if you download the ROM and you are still running a stock Rom with root you may be able to install the Gingerbread with Rom manager. Just a thought.

I'm afraid it won't work - for several reasons. When an OTA update shows up in your phone, it's looking for certain things. If you are rooted, the pure act of rooting won't stop it from installing, but if you've removed or frozen certain key apps, or installed a custom recovery like CWM Recovery, the installation will not find what it's looking for and simply abort. Also, Rom Manager is designed to be used with a custom recovery. The presence of CWM Recovery will almost assuredly cause the OTA update to abort.
If you've rooted but otherwise made no changes to the phone it should go ahead and install - but will immediately UN-root your phone. You may not be able to re-root it immediately, so be prepared to be stuck with what the update gives you for the time being.
Having all of my phones rooted, and with custom roms installed, I make it a firm practice to refuse ALL of the OTA updates, regardless of what they contain. If the information is important, I can get it from one of the many custom roms out there, and I trust the developers over on XDA Forums a lot more than AT&T or HTC to not mess up my phone.
