New PRL!

saw the thread, went to update, noticed while dialing had three bars. Phone updated rebooted and now back to 1-2 bars. :/
went from 51866 to 51920

yeah not happy that I was fine before this and no have the dreaded 50% bug to deal with every time I reboot and it didn't change my prl like another poster mine was 30056 before and 30056 after...totally stinks!!

maybe this is an dumb question or concern, but i did the prl update and then i noticed that when some of my friends call it doesnt ring at all then they say i didnt pick up. i was just wondering if anyone else had this problem and at that if anyone felt this could be due to the prl update???

thanks,

I hope everyone realizes that the prl version number depends on their "Home" area, so you people in Wisconsin arent missing out on the update, you just have a different version than us to be updated to.

What is your slot cycle set at?

That's not the slot cycle. That's the PRL.

phone > ##778 > call > edit mode > 000000 (that's six zeroes as password) > modem settings > slot cycle index > (make your section.. the default is 2, mine's at 0, some set it to 1) > menu > commit settings

The device will reboot.

The slot cycle setting governs how often your device poll the nearest tower for calls.. if it's set too high the caller will often experience a delay and so will you before hearing a first ring.

The PRL is just a static body of information your device uses to identify towers in your area, among other functions. It needs to be updated sometimes if you're roaming or if towers are modified, taken down, sold, moved, etc.

The slot cycle setting is an actual dynamic function of your phone.. each setting corresponds to a certain length of time in seconds between each polling of the nearest tower.

so if i set the slot cycle setting to zero, does that mean its quicker or is that jsut ideally??:confused:

Mine's been at zero for weeks now.

The times in seconds between tower pollings are (you can see that they double with each increment up):

0 = 1.28 seconds
1 = 2.56 seconds
2 = 5.12 seconds
3 = 10.24 seconds

I noticed more battery drain when I changed mine to zero.
Not positive that was the cause, but i have since had mine set to 1, and my eris seems to like it there

I guess I should hae left mine alone I had 65144 and then did this and went down to 51920. So from what I can see mine got worse is this true? If so what do I have to do to get it back up again? I live in dallas, tx.

Thank Frisco just set my slot cycle to zero to test it out. Also with this new Prl Update the 50% signal still there but only had silent bug once. knock hard on wood.
So will this slot cycle fix the 50% signal bug?

You're welcome.

I'd advise those using the lower slot cycle settings to take most of the battery saving measures such as outlined here:

http://androidforums.com/htc-droid-eris/19176-optimize-your-droid-eris-battery-life-read.html

Set to "0" your phone is going to be polling cell towers once ever second-and-a-quarter, that's a lot of energy over the day.

My battery life, on a stock 1350 that came with the Eris, is one good long day of use, from 4:30 am when I turn it on to 10 pm when I power it down and put it on the charger.

I'm used to seeing about 30% left on it, sometimes a bit more and sometimes a bit less, at the end of the day.
