Root New Rezound

Drivembig

Newbie
Hello all, I had to have my rezound replaced under warranty, so I had to un root it. Now that I have the new phone, I am waiting for the OTA and am not going to root yet. Could one run this leaked ICS without rooting their phone? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No ROMs can be installed without rooting. ROMs alter files that are protected by the OS unless you're rooted.

Ah, you mean the stock, leaked, ICS ROM. Yes, you can run the ***RUU.exe file to install it without being rooted. Sorry, I read into your original post.

I think I will just wait a week and see if the official OTA comes in. Then I will root and install a build from that......

i can almost gaurantee you it wont be here in a week. there are still many small issues to resolve. its a good build, but not OTA material yet ;)

as for wether you or not you should flash the leak RUU,a couple things to keep in mind:
1)the RUU will wipe your data
2)it is forever,or until a new RUU is available. there is no way to go back with htcdev unlock and s-on. you will be "stuck" on ICS,as gingerbread roms are not compatible with the new hboot and radio.
3)you may not recieve the real OTA,being on a leak build,as the updater scripts tend to only look for officail release versions(i.e.,youll need to be on 2.01.605.11 ,1.00.605.3,or 1.02.605.6)

if any of these things are important,and/or objectionable, then your best course of action is to:
1)unlock
2)temporarily boot recovery
3)make a backup of your stock,unrooted rom
4)flash root files if you wish to be rooted,or flash an ICS rom based on an older leak, that is compatible with your current firmware if you want a taste of ICS :D

doing things in this manner will let you easily go back to gingerbread if the ICS builds are quite to your liking yet. keeping the stock recovery will also let you recieve the OTA without a hitch if you stay on mildly modded,or not modded, stock rom.

hope that helps clear it up some :)

Hello Everyone,

I was just wondering if there is a way of returning your phone back to factory settings without losing all of your apps?

Thank you everyone form your time.

the only way that you could return to unrooted stock without losing data would be to restore a stock backup.

in other words, you would have needed to make a nandroid backup after unlocking, but before flashing root files, and that time would have to have all the apps that you do not want to lose.

all other means of returning to an unrooted, stock state will wipe your data. more info on unrooting here: http://androidforums.com/rezound-al...ys-noob-friendly-root-guide-start-finish.html

why exactly, are you asking? knowing your motive for wanting to return to "factory settings without losing apps" may yield other solutions :)
