Root New ROM recommendation

First off I want to thank all the dev's here. You've made it pretty easy to customize this phone even for someone like me who understands very little about this stuff.

SHORT STORY
Looking for best rom to conserve battery or any other tweaks you could recommend.
Do task killer apps help? or any other apps that claim to save battery?

MORE DETAILS
My interest in rooting was basically to free up storage space and eliminate bloatware.

I'm on 2.2.2 and have what I think is just the stock kernal 2.6.32.9 lge@android-build #2. I had to do a nand restore a while back so I'm not too sure if this is stock kernal or not...previously when I was running 2.2.1 I had and OC kernal but not sure if my back up was before or after I installed the new kernal (let me know).

What I am looking for is something that will extend battery life. Are certain roms better in this regard or no?

I really don't do anything extreme to kill my battery. Phone, text, check email (don't use phone to send really). I rarely play any games and very rarely stream video (only if I'm checking out an app and they have a vid). No live wallpaper.

Since I don't do a whole lot with my phone I just installed the Kelso EZRider rom...stock based without the bloat sounded exactly like what I needed.

I have A2SD installed to free space and the only other mod I've made is changing the home launcher to GO Launcher because it has some convenient tweaks I like.

Battery life just seems to be worse lately...the phone is over 1.5 years old so maybe age is a contributing factor too?

i recommend reppards, of cource im biased.. but ive been using it since it was released and have never had an issue with it. as far as battery life, it has great battery life, i run my phone overclocked at 804 on the on demand gov as a daily driver, and i use a cheap app called screebl. heres how it works, it senses the direction your phone is facing, so when you set it down, it immediately turns off the screen, and puts the phone to sleep basically, whenever you use the screen off button, it does the same, between reppards rom, and screebl, i have gotten up to 40 hours of battery life without charging, my wifi is set to be on all the time, it never turns off, my brightness is set at 40% unless im outside in the sun, and screebl is set to turn things off int he minimum amount of time. and like i said, up to 40 hours of battery life. i suppose the same effects could be recieved from any rom with the right tweaks but like i said i have had no issues from reppards 9/15 build which is posted in some of the later posts in his thread

BACKside ROM is the way to go. its the latest CM7 build available for us. Its built to be customized, and comes with Bobz OC kernel.
Don't forget to give it the ICS theme. dat blue

Thank you both for the replies.

So can someone tell me if the Kernal I listed is stock...I believe it is.

Does running one of the modified kernals help with battery life? I would think that overclocking would use more battery...isn't overclocking essentially speeding up your phone(which I assume uses more power).

Like I said I'm not really a phone geek so I don't need the quickest phone so if OC'ing is gonna use more juice I'll pass.

Will check out the screeble app.

Any 2.2.2 kernel for our phone is not OC-able, so yeah, its stock. But it has been said it is the most stable kernel available to us (your experience may vary).

I still suggest you upgrade to a gingerbread rom (Reppard's, Bobzhome's, or BACKside). BACKside is the most up-to-date rom (CM7.2 RC2), followed by Bobz CM7.2 RC1), then Reppard (CM7.1). I think that's right.

OCing does take up more juice, but not a whole lot, depending on your usage, you may not even notice it. Plus you can't argue with performance increases.

So I flashed the BACKside Rom. Having some fun playing with all the modifications. The only ROM I've ever used was the Kelso ROM. As long as it was stable is all I really cared about.

Haven't really had time to evaluate battery life with this ROM yet. So we'll see how that goes.

I am now running Screebl and I have Juice Defender(haven't enabled it yet). Anybody have any feedback on these apps or am I wasting my time?

Any additional tips/tweaks/apps for extending battery are appreciated.

Also if anybody knows of anything that will increase my (phone) signal I would appreciate it. I have seen tips/tweaks for increasing data signal but haven't come across any for phone. I live on the edge of this low service "bubble" which Metro knows about but aren't really doing anything about so signal inside and around my house is rather weak.

I think there should be a rom called the SIMPLE Rom. Basically what the name is. It can include Lightening Launcher, and other apps which can make the phone faster and minimalistic for others.

Send me app list of what you want. We will credit you for the name :)
ABC Simple K.I.S.S. Rom

If you want to make your rom seems pretty Fast Go to Spare Parts then go to Windows/Transition Animations(Both) and set them to FAST. makes it seem really quick :D but thats if you haven't tried it yet lol :D

well, as far as SIMPLErom goes, i could compile an AOSP 2.3.7 rom, which would be stock android, no frills, but imho i think cm7 is better, with all the added tweaks

I think it would be good either way. If we had cm7, there are still more tweaks like the windows transition one etc.

So I am still looking for ROM recommendations but now I'm just looking for something stable.

My first ROM was the Kelso EZ-rider and it worked great for me.

I recently to the plunge into CM7 with the BACKside ROM...but it seems to be a bit buggy.

So now I'm hooked on CM7 and just want to know what is the smoothest running ROM?

I'm not trying to stir up any stuff here just looking for a recommendation based on proven track record.

I'm considering the Reppard or the PlayfulGod ROM but don't really know what the differences are and I don't really feek like reading thousands of posts.

Any advice is welcome...thanks.

Always been a fan of Reppards ROM, even though it is a bit outdated. Its very stable.

PlayfulGod's ROMs are hit and miss. One build might be better than another one. There is one specifically that everyone says is the best, but I haven't tried it yet.

BACKside was very buggy for me. I used it for a week before I gave it up and switched to Reppards.

Its basically trial and error. As far as I can tell, there are 3 different Optimus M's, and what works great on my OM might not work so well on yours. Download them all, try them all for a week. You'll figure out which works best for your phone.

Reppard's ROM has long been said to be the most stable one available in the M. Not from personal experience, mind you, I use BACKside.

Giving BobZ ROM a shot.

Question: Is there a way to save CM7 settings.

It took me a long time to go thru and get it just how I wanted it and I apparently lost all my settings.

I see there is a CM settings option in Titanium Backup and I tried this but it did not restore my settings. This is considered a system app and I believe I backed it up but not positive.

Yea that was a known bug In playfulgods rom. His rom its too outdated and still a lil buggy. Good smooth rom. But the bugs need to be worked out. So go with Bobzhome rom and use playfulgods kernel or rocker kernel. If your trying to save cynogemod settings it should do it automatically. It should say need to reboot and a check box saying save on next reboot.

Where is that check box at? Could you give me the path. I took a couple minutes but didn't find it yet.

I've already gone thru and reset my settings to where I want them...just interested for the next time.

Well are you talking about when you flash a new rom to save the settings if so you can't do that cause your wiping data.
