hey guys so looks like there is another way to root the evo 4g. captain throwback has brought this new method to my attention.

first, this is not mine and and credit should go to justin case and dan rosenberg who discovered this. unrevoked and alpharev were aware of this as well. justin case and reid holland wrote TacoRoot. and of course thanx should go out to Captain Throwback you are awesome!!!!!!

second, it is just as complicated as the captain's method but it is an interesting idea. it actually has been out for a few months. it was made public when htc decided to have their device's bootloader locked down. now that the evo has the same locked bootloader, this method will work now.

basically TacoRoot uses a vulnerability in the recovery.log which is then re-written so that you will have an adb root shell that you can then use captains guide to alter the misc partition and then downgrade your hboot to 2.10. once that is done you can then use unrevoked to fully root your phone.

i have re-written the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...-rooting-gingerbread-2-3-5-dummies-guide.html to reflect the new root method. i have also re-organized the guide as well.

I went to the rootwiki link and tried to ask a question about it there but the thread wasnt allowing anymore posts.
Anyway, in the introduction for this method, they said how unstable this was when you achieve the temp root. My question is, does it become stable once you downgrade the hboot and root with unrevoked or other method? Thanks in advance.

there are commands when using this method:

the command tacoroot.sh -root will make your phone unstable. during this part you will see that your phone is in a bootloop or it will not work properly. however, all the work will be done on your computer. as long as you have the command window up you are good to go.

once you enter the comman tacoroot.sh -undo then your phone will become stable again. just follow the guide linked in the op.
