alright so i havent tried it, but some folks over at xda are trying to get the "evo 4g" rooting method to work, in fact, its almost completed and not yet proven but the progress looks very promising, wasn't sure if anyone knew yet... so here it is! i hope it works and is easy, i tried the other way for hours, no luck,
