Root New rooter needs assistance

okay, I'm on the desktop of the htc one sv, running supersu with twrp 2.8, the latest, I have root explorer 3.3 as a file browser/manager what now>>?
Explore.

Just promise - you'll make a nandroid backup before flashing anything.

For some very cool mods for rooted users - read up about Xposed.

You install that, and it lets you install modules that can do things - cool things.

Look in the Play Store.

Never rush with rooting or you're going to face this same confusion all over again.

Take it one step at time - read, decide if you want to try, backup, try. Then keep and enjoy, or restore from backup if you don't like the change or it doesn't work or breaks your phone.

yeah, sorry for posting so much, just excited, it just came up, gave supersu permission now, I really needed to get rid of the app partition, with the 4gig of unusable space allotted for phone storage, and the other 4gig for app storage with all of googles crap in it, let me install about 10 apps before having like 3-400mb's for update room. Showing more on the phone internal storage but still limited on app space, with sd card you have 3 storage areas, can I fix thisj?

Look for Busybox by Stericson in the Play Store - a lot of root packages will want that.

Check out MyBackup Root. Most folks prefer Titanium Backup but I like MyBackup Root because it's easier.

Either of those let you make a handy backup of just your apps and data (where a nandroid backup does everything).

No no no no - you do not start deleting partitions. Delete nothing at this point.

Most of that kind of advice is going to brick your phone in one quick hurry.

Take your time - don't harm your phone - look around for solutions like Link2SD - by searching our forum.

Not sure if there's one for your phone but if you follow carefully, you can get something like that working for you.

Also - look for a custom rom for your phone that is made for Cricket and might have less bloatware, to your liking. Much better option than hacking away and deleting stuff, believe me.

Okay friend, thank you, I just went looking at Nandroid programs, do you have one to suggest, first three I read have horrible reviews, as I said I have Root Explorer 3.3 purchased some months ago, now that I am rooted it will mount the root drive, has network access capability and can copy files to & from and across networks, but if a nandroid can do a one click I can get to understanding this new puddle of mud I just stepped into lmfao!

*UPDATE* I just tried to mount with Root Explorer and it comes up with the SuperSU user grant access gui and I grant it and it comes back telling me I am not rooted, is there another step I have to do to root?

Okay, busybox, said on stock HTC Kernel it was the only one they supported, just walked me through downloading, opening now

Smart install is loading... you may go ahead and install busybox or wait for Smart install to finish loading, I will wait :-)

yeah, I got that, went pro for a buck or so and it is trying to do the install, the first time the free version ran I think it ran out of space
will hit back in a minute, pro's doing its thing

went with the Erickson box pro, it went through, did the root check went pro just to support the developer, it was like 3rd or 4th down, first ones had horrible reviews, but my Root Manager is still saying I'm not rooted, hmmmmmm, Root Checker gives all the info though, sure do wish there was a way to get the other 4 gig of phone storage opened up, is there some way to do away with partitions?

583mb is all I have left, I guess when I read up, learn more I can free some unused google crap out of the way, thank you so much for the walk through, you wouldn't believe the crap I went through the last two weeks trying to get this done, most of the links (xda developers and so on) were nothing but viruses and if I did not have Norton 360 premium on this laptop would have been toast. Thank you.

lee

busybox still comes up saying something about something not being installed and is reinstalling itself, guess I need to unload the free one, they list theirselves separately in the program lists

No, that's like trying to do away with your C: drive.

But - bit by bit, there are things you can do to get you some breathing room.

Go slow - get advice from people with the One SV who have done it.

Drop a line to @frosthax1 - you can click that link - and see if he has any tips for you.

But I cannot stress enough - go slow. Slow and steady wins the race.

Glad you're rooted. :)

I don't have this particular HTC, so I'm going to leave you to other SV owners and go help the next guy with root trouble. ;) :)

i have a few things posted but if you want help understanding other stuff beyond that feel free to ask.

id recommend giving my debloated backup a try but atm it has a streaming bug.other than that its proven to be good and has some of the hookups already explained.

i will eventually fix that bug but atm im clueless as to why the streaming (on data) doesnt work.on wifi streamings fine
the first backup link everything works with additions but its much bigger in size.reason earlymon tagged me is because the all root forums a mix of htc one svs.there are nonboost models as well.
make sure you pick the right specifics.you dont want to have a phone that does nothing at all

I just re-read the first post here.

If you can't get to recovery following my steps, you simply want to install it again.

Let me know what happens and I'll walk you through my steps.

I wanted to come back and thank you for walking me through my "first steps" in the Android world. Right place at the right time or I doubt I would be sitting here with my unlocked, s-off, HTC One sv with storage fixed to make it last for years like was the original goal. Thanks to you I can now do just about any thing required in setting up a phone, recovering from experimenting and such.
Most would not take the time and to this I do not understand. Since you have helped me I have helped others newer than myself and had no problems walking through the same steps repeatedly like you did me until it clicked with them into understanding.
I have run into some really rude people but not on this site, mostly just x-d-a, and they have a large number of helpful people as well.

Just wanted to say thanks, once again.... oh yeah, the HTC One sv started out trying to get more app storage?:
The 8gb was split and app storage side comes with about 3gb of HTC/Google bloat even before the continuous updates. It now has 6.85gb of app storage with bloat trimmed back to about 1.78 on stock ROM with 1.15gb of internal phone storage, and running a 64gb ext_sd card~!

Danka EarlyMon,

Zach
