Root New S-OFF Method Released -- Sunshine

Sunshine won't care how old the version is, it just wants stock rooted.

At one time there were some stock rooted nandroids up as well at XDA.

Just a stock rom will work, no need for an RUU.

Either will do fine, it's all just a throwaway after Sunshine.

ah ok - many thanks

...the ones I spotted appeared to be higher android levels than mine (4.4.2) - so wouldn't I run into the same problem as with my trying to upgrade viper? ie I would need higher fireware to install them?

might have got that totally wrong :D

cheers
dan

:D that was the one I spotted too :D

You don't care if you don't have the firmware to support every feature.

You only care that it limps along well enough to run so Sunshine can get under the stock hood and work its magic. :)

After Sunshine, you will -

Go to FASTBOOT USB mode and apply the s-off SuperCID mod...

Get into RUU mode and update your firmware...

Make sure you have TWRP up to date at 2.8.6...

Then flash the latest ViperOneM8 Lollipop or anything else that you like.

geez ... sounds like I could run into issues with new twrp and older bootloader, plus, as im on win xp, I might have to install c++ and .net!

....maybe 1.8 isn't too bad after all :/ :D

You might, been a few instances where latest TWRP just doesn't flash with older bootloader for some reason. If so, just stick with old TWRP - as long as you find a stock Rom or backup that will flash with older version - until you get Sunshine to work it's magic.

Heya M8's :D

It looks like JustinCase et al have been hard at work again and have created a new S-oFF method for HTC devices called SunShine.

TheRoot Ninja - SunShine HTC Bootloader Unlock / S-Off

Video Demonstration:

However, this time things are a bit different - it costs $25 per device.

I'd be curious in how this compares to firewater - current device owners - I assume that method has been patched?

Edit: Also, it looks like this is just an app - no computer required

I am trying to use sunshine for my motorola xt1080 Verizon and when I am doing the tests I get to where it want to check for temp root/root and of course I dont have root, so the test fails and it says I cant use sunshine. I'm more that willing to pay the 25$ and more but it wont work, so what can I do to obtain a temp root,? lmk any options.
Thanks in advance and I hope to hear back from you soon

Hi all, lots of brilliant minds here so I would really appreciate some help as I am new to this scene and not tech savy like you guys. I have a HTC One M8 (vodafone) and need to remove the sim lock so I can use a different network sim (claro) to keep in contact with family back home. vodafone disconnected me for missing 1 bill and they have declined my unlock code request via EMEI...after being a customer for 10 years.

After much searching on google I found that I need to enable s/off to be able to unlock phone to a new network/sim.
So i tried method #3 on here. http://androidandme.com/2014/08/devices/three-ways-to-sim-unlock-the-htc-one-m8-for-free/

which led me to firewater/sunshine..but I don't have $25 to pay at this time, is there a cheaper/free alternative? I only want to unlock phone for sim :( any help appreciated :)

I tried ordering a code for 8 euro but received a refund within an hour because the code was not found....also i tried vodafone uk again and they said the IMEI number does not exist...but I definitely typed it right and have a screenshot to prove it...so is sunshine the only way? :/

Just an update to my previous post, HTC ONE M8 is now unlocked after receiving a code from cellunlocker.net for $12. Worked first time, although I since realised the codes are available on ebay for $5..DOH!!
