Root New SD Card getting FRIED!! HELP!

Ok. Frustrated beyond belief here.

Just fried my second micro SD card in an attempt to upgrade from the standard 16gb to a 32gb.

Phone (EVO) is rooted but it is all stock OS with several apps frozen.

Both SD cards are/were Sandisk 32gb Class 6

Both times I followed the instructions found on the forums to a "T".

Put Phone into Disk Drive mode.
Copied all files from old Card to PC.
Shut down phone and removed old card.
Inserted new SD card and rebooted.
Formatted new card with Phone.
Copied files from PC to Card......

.....and that's when it hits the fan. Both times copying of files was nearly compete (nearly 2hours later) when I received a Copy Error Message (different files each time). Transferring of files stopped and SD card is now a really poor paper weight. Can't connect to the card via phone or PC via an adapter. The phone gives me the option of formatting the card, but won't actually do it, and won't mount the card.

Any help in getting the Card running again, or in telling me where I went wrong would be GREATLY appreciated. (also, is the SD Card not compatible?)

THANKS IN ADVANCE.

Your card wont be up and running...
I dont know why, but i was doing the EXACT same thing and i fried the sandisk 8gb that came with the phone. I had to buy another one..it was like 20 something dollars on amazon.

But what is weird, someone i know....exact same thing happened to his..

I read somewhere that every now and then some sd cards just randomly go bad. Like a blank CD R, every now and then you get a dud. I dont know if its true, but it makes sense. I dont believe how often it is, i can imagine one in a million, but you get two in a row? And me, and the other guy???

Sounds more like an issue with the Evo to me.

Trying formatting the card from the SD card section in settings. When transferring the files from PC to SD card do a few at a time. This way you can see where the error occurs then delete that file and continue transferring. And remember to copy the files not move them.

Just out of curiosity why do you suggest not the move the file and copy them instead? I reason I ask is because I always just drag and drop, not copy. Just wondering if drag and dropping can cause a card to stop working?

OP cant connect the card to his phone or to the PC.
Its unreadable, basically while its plugged into the phone or the PC you cant do anything to it anymore because its fried..

At least thats what i got from the post.. Is that whats happening yankee? Contents cant be viewed, card wont mount to phone/PC or anything?

SDcard won't do anything anymore. It won't mount on the phone either or allow itself to be formatted.

Pretty sure it is toast.

I didn't pay as close attention to which file it got jammed on the first time, but on the second time it was on an mp3

I'm willing to buy one more card to try it out, but am wondering if I should UNROOT the phone first, then copy the sd card contents and re-root it? or follow the same steps again? Should I unfreeze all the programs I have frozen?

I really don't feel like frying 3 cards in a row.

Has anyone else had problems with the Sandisk 32gb Cass 6? Is there a better card? Does anyone have a class 6 working on their phone?

Because if something goes wrong while moving the file you're screwed. The file on the PC and SD card will be bad. If you copy it then the file on the PC or vice versa will be intact. Just highlight a few files at a time and copy them from one to another.

I see... I'm not sure how it is on a windows based computer, but on my mac when I drag and drop files from the cpu to the sd it automatically copies the files.

Where are you getting the cards from? Are you sure they are real scandisk sd cards? I know there have been tons of problems with the sd cards from ebay.

If youve already done 2 cards..id be worried about trying another one. Maybe you can get a cheapo, like a 2gb and try it for a while before you throw another expensive one in there.
And i doubt its the root, mine happened before i rooted if that makes a difference..
I think...it has something to do between the phone and the sd card. Root wouldnt make much of a difference

One can drag and drop on PC as well but I prefer to choose a batch of files and copy them a few at a time. Any errors can be caught and rectified without screwing up the entire process.

I'm not sure Sandisk makes a 32 gb card that 's class 6. I'm only familiar with a class 2 from Sandisk (which doesn't mean that there isn't a class 4 or higher card)

I know Kingston recently came out with a 32 gb that's class 4.

I've not seen a 32 gb class 6 card myself and would think that a 32 gb class 6 card would be at least $175 if not significantly higher.

I had similar problems with a 16 gb class 10 kingston card. Files kept getting corrupted and it did a number on my EVO. I switched to 32 gb class 2 sandisk card, made sure that I formatted first on my EVO, then coppied individual folders from my pc to my EVO. Seems to be fine after 3 weeks. I think my problem was I was using a card reader to copy files from the pc to the microsd card.

Best of luck getting this sorted out.

Alright, So on closer inspection the Sandisks I got off eBay where total fakes. When I compared them to two other SanDisks I have, you can see slight differences between the (fake) ebay ones and the real deal. Lucky for me, the seller was totally apologetic and hadn't realized they were fake, and gave me a full refund.

As someone else posted: As of Dec 2010 Sandisk doesn't make a Class 6 32GB MicroSD.

So with the refund money I purchased a 3c 32gb Class 4 and it works great!

Thank you all for your responses!
