Root New SD card

Hello, i have successfully rooted my HTC Desire and i'm very happy with it, but i have one question.
If i were to buy a new SD card to my phone, can i copy over all the files from my previous SD card to the new one. Is it possible to do this without rooting again? If there is a way, i would appreciate if someone explained how i'm going to do so.

Ps, i'm new to the rooted system.

Yours
Richard

If you haven't partitioned the card, it's just a case of copying the card contents to pc, then drag them all onto the new one. You wont lose root.

As shauny13 stated what you want to do is connect your device to your PC via USB in Disk Drive mode. Then drag your connect from oldSDCard to PC and then unmount the oldSDcard from device and install newSDCard and connect again via Disk Drive mode and now drag the connect back from your PC to newSDCard.

Far as setting goes depending on the type clean or messy directory system you had it will be easy or hard. As most of us follow strict directory policies to keep it clean as most of the other data will be rebuilt even if you delete it, just remember to get everything you need.

Thanks guys! Now it feels like a good idea to upgrade to a new sd card. Have looked around abit and what do you think about 8/16gb class 6, how does one of thouse cards run? if we talk about buying it from a good reseller and not from ebay where you can't guarantee the quality...

Sorry if the english is a bit sloppy,

8/16 GB class 6 cards should be no problem at all.
Just make sure to select one that is from a known manufacturer, like Kingston, Sandisk, Transcend, etc.

Note a very important part of Shauny's post:

If you haven't partitioned the card

If you have, this procedure will work fine for the fat32 partition, but a PC won't be able to see or copy the contents of an ext partition (for the root apps2sd - Froyo style doesn't need a partition, but most of us have one). So if you are using an A2SD ROM a little working-around is needed to migrate cards (I've not had to do it yet, but I reckon the simplest way for a PC user is probably to use a nandroid backup).

If you've not gone a2sd yet, the simplest is probably to wait for your new card before doing so.
