Root new SD card

Alright, I'll do it up - with screen shots. No promises as to when, I thought I'd have it done last night, but wound up not even starting it.

Are you posting it as a reply to this thread
No, I'll post it as a new thread. I will do it, but don't hold your breath for the next couple of days. My wife has been having contractions on and off for the past two days, with anywhere from 7 minutes to 45 minutes in between. We know it can't be long now, and I have to prioritize. That's part of why I'd drug my feet on updating my themes. Didn't want to be right in the middle of something when the time came to run to the hospital.

I wish I knew all the mumbo jumbo everyone is talking about because so far I'm left in the dark. I'm trying to figure out how, after I've flashed cm7 unto my phone, to go back and download all apps to my sd card. Can I do this using custom recovery? Or should I just g0 back and re-install the cm7? Sorry for the cross posting. I'm stuck downloading google maps from another site other than the market.

So are you trying to move apps that are installed right now, or are you trying to set your phone up to install new apps to the sd card?

I'm trying to install all apps straight to my SD card. Like Google maps. I know how to move everything to SD but I want them to automatically download there.

Well, you have a couple of options. App2sd has a feature to move newly installed apps as they're installed, and it's really easy to use. If you need even more space and are willing to spend the time to get it set up, Link2sd is excellent. Once set up, it's fully automatic, but has more of a learning curve. App2sd is self explanatory, and there is an excellent tutorial on Link2SD in the sticky "All Things Root Guide". I'd recommend you check out both and see which one makes more sense for you.

I'm going to try the link2sd one. The app2sd didn't do what I wanted so, wish me luck!

Then start here. Good info, it will help you get set up. If you have questions, feel free to ask, I float through these boards several times a day, so I'll be around.

That works too. Much easier as there is no setup at all. Although I believe it acts like app2sd does, in that the libraries and such are still on the phone. I might be mistaken.

Go into CM7 options within the phone settings and tell it to download to external storage.

I tried that originally but decided on going into recovery and set it up there. Works great, but had to reload my back up, which was a minor inconvenience.
